Hey everyone, I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Dave and I recently had surgery to remove my colon and form my J-Pouch. I had UC since I was a little kid and it went into remission for about 15 years until about 2 years ago when it came back with a vengeance. I had my colon removed and a one step j-pouch creation/hookup at mt. sinai in ny on May 11. On May 18 they found that the pouch had leaked on the staple line and had to re-open me and give me a temporary illeostomy (spelling?) Needless to say I CANNOT wait to get rid of this bag and get my TD in August. I see there are quite a few people on here who are having TD's soon and I just wanted to join the group! Peace everyone!

Hi Dave,

This site is a WONDEFUL resource. It is amazing how much information you can learn from fellow Jpouch'ers from this website.

I also had surgery at Mount Sinai - One-Step procedure. There are lots of people on this webstie that used Mount Sinai (NYC) for their surgeries. Sorry to hear that you had to have an additional surgery, but August is right around the corner.

Hi Dave, I'm glad to hear you found this site and have started to use it. You will find the nicest and most helpful people that have lived what you have lived and will be able to answer some questions that your Dr forgot to tell you.
I too had UC since 1995 and had my colon removed July of 2006, although I'm alot older than you are I may have had some of the same problems you had. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. If you have the time stop around to the JPouch group chat room, you will find some really helpful people after 9pm most evenings.
Best wishes and stay healthy, Craig

Hey Dave - welcome to the club! It's not fun having the bag but just wait till you start really feeling better! I never liked having the bag (certainly didn't feel very sexy ... ) but man life what still so much better! Hope things go well for you between now an August and you enjoy the feeling of feeling better!

Take care ... we are all here if you need us!
