Hi everyone -

I am happy to report that on Monday, May 28th my husband and I are leaving for the Cleveland Clinic for a second opinion. I made the appointment back in February - I have been waiting 3 looonnggg months (feels more like 3 years). I am excited and hopeful!! I was dx with UC in 9/06 and unfortunately, don't feel as though I have received the best care/treatment locally. I am pretty sure I am flaring again (although I don't think I ever went into remission). The 4 1/2 hour car trip should be interesting... Razzer

Anyway, I have heard very ositive things about Cleveland - I really feel like I am seeing the best of the best! I sure hope so - I am at the end of my rope!

Wish me luck,

Karen Big Grin

Hi Karen,
Good luck in Cleveland! I live here and had my surgeries (3-step process) in Nov. 04., April 05 and July 05. If you have any questions, you can send me a private message and I will be glad to help you with whatever I can.
I feel so lucky that the Cleveland Clinic is only 25 minutes from my house and so easy and convenient for me. I feel badly for those of you who have to travel distances to get here. Just take the ride slow and you'll stop when you need to. I know one person who put a little port a potty in the suv just in case it was needed but it was never used. It just added that extra assurance that was needed. Let me know who you are meeting with and what they say. I can tell you all I know about the Cleveland Clinic. I have lived here most of 42 years.
Take Care.

Karen

Good luck at the clinic. The drive for me was about 3 1/2 hours and well worth it. My surgery was 4/05 & 7/05. The Drs and staff at the CC are wonderful. I have made the drive quite often in the last couple of years. At my last check up my surgeon told me unless there was a problem to come back in 2 years. Best wishes! Lora

Karen,

Good luck at Cleveland Clinic. I've heard lots of good things about it with regard to UC/j-pouch treatment. Sounds like you're in excellent hands!

I have my appointment July 9th so I am looking forward to hear how yours goes. I have been waiting for mine since February but it took my MD's office some time to get the referral going. I also had to reschedule from June to July since I am a labor coach for someone due June 11th. Iam not considered a good surgical candidate so I am hoping to get a positive second opinion. I wish you the best!

You picked a great place to get a second opinion. I went there a few times (8 hour drive!). The hospital is so well run and the people there were very friendly.

I met with Dr. Shen and Dr. Lavery, they both were very helpful.

Good luck!

HI Bill,
It's a five hour drive for me and I feel it is worth it. I am seeing Dr. Hull. I could go to Rochester or Buffalo but either of those are a ride as well.
