Hi, Most of you probably know who my dad is on here and I have occasionally posted under his name but I finally took the time to create my own account on here. So hey all.

I have been experimenting for years now with the pouch, what works with the pouch and what doesn't. I have been too quick to post in the past when I thought I found the answers. Well the only time that I actually did this was with fiber. I still do agree that a certain amount of fiber in the intestine is good, but its not gonna cure pouchitis or perform any miracles.

Anyone on here that has had pouchitis and has taken an antibiotic to clear it up knows that the difference once you take the antibiotic is night and day, instant cure and relief in most cases and I remember my favorite was flagyl. I havent been on flagyl for at least five years and refuse to take it because I don't believe pumping antibiotics into your system could be worth the benefits over the long term, so I lived with the trips to the bathroom and the discomfort of pouchitis.

Lets think back to when you first had the surgery and the docs and GI's told us that the pouch will learn to absorb some extra water and perform better over time. Thats not how it worked for me and it hasent seemed to work like that for many others on here either. But why? BACTERIA. Our small intestines were never meant to have significant amounts of bacteria growing in them which is inevitable when we are retaining fecal matter in our small bowels via the pouch. One more thing I don't believe that pouchitis is localized to the pouch either, I believe it usually affects the entire last third of the intestine.

Back to Antibiotics. Its a cure right? No. the side effects for me and others prove that they are only a temporary fix and have long term side effects.

Heres the point of all this, a product I have been taking for two months has drastically improved my pouch function, is helping me gain weight and is looking very promising. The product is Candigone. It is a product that is marketed to reduce the presence of yeast in the body, but many of the ingredients have awsome antibacterial properties.

More specifically it has reduced gas and allows my intestine to function properly and remove extra water from the stool creating a nearly solid bm with no addtional fiber. It has also allowed me to reduce my hydrocortizone supps for my cuffitis from one a day to one every other day.

Here is exactly what I have been taking:

Morn: two candigone capsules and thirty drops of the liquid. (I put the liquid in empty gelcaps that I have ordered because it tastes really bad.) and two DDS 100 acidophilis probiotics.

Midday: 1 candigone capsule and twenty drops.

Night : 2 candigone caps and thirty drops.

I would like a few others on here to try this product out and post your results. Please try it, It really has helped me so much and I have virtually tried everything else. Any takers, Rappo? anyone else, lets do it. If you are skepticle, try it. I am one of the most skepticle people you will ever meet and I almost decided against it when I saw the twenty five dollar price tag but now I am very glad I went against my instincts on this one.

BUMP!

Very interesting - maybe it's the anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial herbs that are doing the trick. I don't recognise some of the ingredients - have you asked a doctor whether it's safe to take long term?

Nikki

P.S. I hope Rappo and PanPan see this - maybe you could send them a PM.

I think you are on the right track. I think yeast is at the root of the pouch problems for some of us. Getting rid of it is another thing. Going on a yeast free, sugar free diet & the right supplements is a start. Oil of oregano(capsules & oil, Olive leaf, & Astragalus are some of the suggestions I have read about. The diet is quite stringent(a healing diet) but would be worth it if I can get my mind around it. Thanks for your post. Throwing more drugs at the problem is not going to be a long term fix. I've been on that route already.

Where do you find Candigone? I'll try almost anything Smiler to slow things down.

Thanks...Jessica

Hi,

Not sure if anyone is following up on this discussion from 2007.

Could Candigone be used along with antibiotics? My doc is putting me on a six week course of Cipro and I was wondering if Candigone would couteract against the antibiotics. Will one cancel the other out (similar to probiotics and antibiotic use).

I have been suffering with pouchitis for a couple of months now and cipro has helped but I don't wanna be on it long term.

I am suffering from non stop yeast infections and don<t know what to do. I use VSL3 (2-3 sachets a day) but they still keep coming back!!!

This is certainly against the probiotic approach, isnt it? One side says ingest bacteria and you say the small intestine was never meant to have this type of bacteria.
