I had chronic pouchitis since my ostomy closure surgery in early December and plan to try VSL#3 to see if it helps. Should I go for the powder that you have to mix with water, etc., or the capsules?

I've been using the caps simply because I got a supply of samples via my office but I separate the caps and put the powder in my morning smoothie
~Shannon~ UC dx 2003 Tried Asacol, Colazol, Entocort, Canasa, Rowasa, 6MP, Remicade only to end up with pancolitis requiring IPAA. Currently on Prednisone titer, Flagyl and Percocet post-op COLON FREE as of Jan 21, 2010!!! |

4 capsules equal 1 packet of powder in amount of live bacteria. We use the capsules because it's easier (and less argument causing)to take for my 10 year old. He takes 2 in the morning and 2 at night but then he's just a 65lb kid so I would assume an adult amount would at the very least be double to triple that. I think for alot of people it's a pricing issue - how much they need to take and which is the most affordable way.
My son has his next pouchoscopy in 2 weeks to see if the VSL#3 worked to clear up his "angry pouch" son diagnosed with UC 2006 (age 6) colectomy & jpouch surgery 7/08 (age 8) takedown surgery 11/08 (age 9) do great now - healthy, growing normal obnoxious |
