While there aren't a lot of foods I have to avoid, popcorn is one I eat very cautiously. I view it as the riskiest food out there and the few times I've eaten it over the last 8 years since I have had the pouch, I eat it slowly, chew a lot and drink a lot of water with it.
I didn't start eating any foods I was concerned about like popcorn or mushrooms until at least six months after my surgery. Just remembered - there is one food I've avoided altogether though it might be ok - celery. It scares the heck out of me. Good luck. I'd say if you really want popcorn, eat it the way we all have to eat nowadays - mindfully and knowing that it could cause a blockage or the "glassy" feeling coming out. |

I waited about a year to eat foods like popcorn, celery, nuts, etc. All the foods that seem to cause issues with some pouches.
As mentioned in a few different posts, try a little at first, CHEW and drink lots of water. If you don't have any problems, try a bit more next time. I was eating Bugles the other day and thought that they had a bit of a popcorn taste to them. LOVE them!!! Also, corn chips and flavoured rice cakes are a good alternative. Although, I know that when you are truely craving something, nothing but the real thing will do. Just be careful!! ** Christine ** UC dx Oct 2003; Step 1 - 10/8/2005; TakeDown - 05/19/2006; pouchitis dx Dec 2006 The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace. I eat an entire tub of popcorn almost every day some weeks with no problems. I guess everyone's different so you just need to carefully try a little and go slow to see if you can tolerate it. For me - I can eat anything (and do).

NO NO NO. Wait for a while. I know it sucks, but I would so wait. It has fiber in it and can block you. Wait for a while.

I eat tons of rice cakes. Probably the food I eat most.
I like them with peanut butter and raw honey for breakfast. I also crumble them up in my Chunky soups that I eat for lunch. They are very easy on my pouch. I eat them now instead of Pop Tarts and Cheetos. |

I never thought about blockages. However...popcorn and nuts just about kill me coming out, if you know what I mean. I really try to chew well too, but its never enough.

I didn't dare eat popcorn for ages after TD, but have eaten very small amounts and very carefully, without problems. I don't guzzle any kernels, I nibble the white, popped bits and try not to end up munching away on the hard kernels, and this has worked very well for me.
