Has anyone had botox shots to help w/fissures? I went to my surgeon a few wks ago and he said he could give me these shots. He said there would be a possibility of some leakage. I don't remember, but I think he said that these shots would give my fissure time to heal. The shots would last 3 or 4 months. I've been using nitro-bid ointment for the past month. I had a horrible wk last wk. I'm afraid I may have to give in and try the shots. He told me there's surgery that can be done, but in my condition he would not consider it.

I haven't had the procedure, but I can give you more information. The Botox injections serve the same purpose as the surgery, which would be a sphincterotomy (which is basically cutting into the sphincter, causing it to relax). The Botox paralyzes the sphincter, stopping the spasm that perpetuates the fissure. The potential leakage is because of this relaxing of the sphincter. The beauty of it is that the Botox will wear off, the sphincter function return, and hopefully by that time, your fissure will have healed.
It's not perfect, but a reasonable option when other things have failed.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

I had botox shots 3 weaks ago..I was not fine but now I am a little bit fine..It is not permenant and because of this I choose this method..as u know sphichetomy is a permenant solution and I do not trust it..This surgery can take my life into hell..so take these shots and see what will happen..but do not expect so much, healing takes 1 month
