Any suggestions for alleviating the pain from post-takedown gas? My surgeon says that it will go away, but I want it gone NOW!

Chewable gas-x worked for me, beano has worked for others. It will go away! I think walking will help too... Good luck!

Thanks, Arizonafour. I'll try one of those. My surgeon brother-in-law says "suck it up, it's part of recovery" but I say, not if I don't have to!

Hang in there - it goes away within 3 weeks or so if not less.

Find positions to expel the gas. Use a protective pad under you if you are lying down as it takes awhile to learn how to expel gas without stool! For me, lying on one side or the other brings gas to the outside! As does having my butt in the air....gas rises! Additionally, I'd do two other things at first to expel the gas. I'd sit on the toilet and cough hard..really hard...explosions followed! I'd keep coughing until I felt there was no more gas. Secondly, another method I used was to get in the shower with a hand held shower wand and spray very warmish water up my "bum". Relax the sphincter and out would come gas and anything else sitting there! As messy as this sounds, it's not bad once we don't have a colon. Clean up is easy with that shower wand! Relaxing the anal sphincter is key to letting the gas exit. Best wishes!
