Two years after takedown I am feeling a sharp, sort of pinching pain in the area where the stoma had been located. I thought it might be related to the surgery but I'm wondering about a hernia and any danger there might be if it's not taken care of immediately. The pain is only a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10 but it seems to be getting worse. It zaps me when I sneeze, or bear down. I know I should get it checked out but I thought I'd check in with the group for advice.

I had a Hernia in the same area. It looked like a softball pushing out where my stoma had been. My Dr. told me it had to be taken care of pretty quickly so I had surgery right away. This was in 04, and things have been great since then...Randy

I also got a burning type sensation and even a tearing sensation when I did certain things..
Everyone says that hernias are no big deal and it's not a rush to have surgery... I have never been comfortable with that notion and would rather have it fixed sooner than later, but that's just me...Call me paranoid if you want...
I've already had emergency surgery for one hernia(became infected) and laid in a hospital bed for a month on a wound-vac. Then had another hernia surgery. Mine was a midline incisional(SP)..(2002)
I may have another one right now(repeat rate is pretty high). There is no way I am going to have surgery done up where I live. (The surgeons up here are scared of me.)So If it is a true hernia I will go to UCSF again...

I have the same feeling, but I don't have a hernia. I think it may be adhesions. Obviously nothing to worry about as I've been prodded and inspected and operated on by a plastic surgeon and he would have told me if there'd been a hernia there.

I get a weird twisting feeling in my pelvic region when I strain too hard.
Doc said it was no big deal and I could get it fixed next time I go in for something else.
I try not to strain so much.

Sounds like the symptoms I had prior to my hernia surgery. I would have it checked out to make sure it is nothing serious.

? for those of you who have had hernia surgery at your Ostomy site - I had my surgery in March of 2007. After a lot of physical work, or when I have a bad cough (like now) my hernia just "kills". I can't stand the pain. Is this normal? When not doing a lot of physical labor, I feel fine. But still have the burning feeling even if I sneeze.

Prepare for the worse, hope for the best!

I don't think just pain indicates a hernia. I had a hernia and there was no pain. If you've got a hernia you should be able to feel a soft balloon like protrusion in the area. It may or may not be painful - but if the area doesn't have any ballooning out protrusion and all you can feel is fat and muscle under your skin, then you probably don't have a hernia.

The problem is after a bunch of surgeries nothing feels "normal" anymore! Since I have a ton of scar tissue and a very weirdly shaped belly I can barely tell if I do have one or not. One thing that can kind of mimic a hernia is if an adhesion is stretching out...That can kind of feel the same.
If you are having pain when coughing and stuff the best way to tell is to lay your hand over the area and cough..If it's there you will feel something(intestine)poke on thru. The other way to tell is to tighten up your abdominal muscles and check it that way.
I'm too paranoid to wait for mine to ne fixed>If there is one. Apparently that is up for debate...The surgeon feels non but the radiologist sees it...
Who do I beleive??? I feel it..
