Getting a BCIR!

I've had my jpouch for over five years. Since then, I haven't slept a full night. A good night for me is getting up three times. I've had chronic pouchitis. Can't take flagyl, the Xifaxin is starting to lose efficacy. Even when antibiotics work, my best days are ten bowel movements. I've had it!

Just a couple of weeks ago on this very board, I found out about BCIR surgery. Never heard of it before that. I did much research that included talking to several people who had jpouches and switched to BCIR after they too found out about it. Every response was nothing but positive! These are people who, like me, had simply had enough of jpouch frustrations.

I've been talking to Susan Kay at Palms of Pasadena Hospital in FL, and I found out today that I'm able to have the surgery!

I never thought I'd be this happy about having yet another major abdominal surgery (this will be number eight), but I can't wait to be able to not have to worry about where the bathrooms are no matter where I go. I can't wait until I can empty simply by using a catheter a few times a day. I can't wait until I no longer have an urge to have a bowel movement at the most inconvenient times. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET SOME SLEEP LOL!

Barring unforeseen problems, I am scheduled for BCIR surgery on February 8th. It's amazing how many jpouchers and ostomates have never heard of this procedure.

Thank you to those on this forum who brought up this topic. If it weren't for you, I thought I'd end up going back to the bag.

Yay! Brian, I am excited for you. It is scary to sign yourself up for yet another surgery, but for me,the relief with the K pouch was immediate. I hope all goes as planned for you, and I think you will probably be another happy BCIR customer! Keep us posted on your progress, I will be praying for you.

Woohoooo. Brian when you know your room number and want a call I can give you a cheery one and some tips if you want em. The BCIR is cool. When you go home the first 2 weeks are rough but once you get to the 4 hour drainage life is so much better and you learn tricks to draining. I am in and out of the bathroom in 5 minutes. I hold it a lot longer and sometimes forget to go so set reminders on my iphone.
