My husband had a liver transplant 5 years ago, then developed UC and had to get the J pouch in October. Since then, he's had little success getting things to go more solidly and less frequently. Just started him on Natren Healthy Trinity probiotics and Apple Pectin based on some of the postings I saw here. He goes over 15 times a day and 3 time/night. Sometimes gets the runs when he doesn't stop for hours. Lots of surprises after both surgeries to say the least. I'm a nurse, lucky me and lucky him. Who else could keep up? Any words of advice and any other ideas on how to slow things down would be appreciated.
Lorene - do a search here. I think there was a woman in the last couple of years who had both. I think she had the j-pouch first and then almost immediately her 'numbers' (I'm not sure what numbers those are) went bad and she had to have the transplant. She and her family had a website relating the progress of her recuperation.
Has he tried imodium and/or metamucil wafers? The wafers really helped with looseness for me. I hope you find a solution - poor guy!
