Ok, so, assuming that buttburn is that acidic, searing feeling, what do we call that feeling you get from the slightest movement after a rather, uhm, stubborn BM? Sometimes it feels like my tailbone has been shattered, other times it feels like I've run a marathon all the way to Kenya. I mean, obviously it's from straining, but is this a sign that I'm really hurting myself? Do strained muscles give the feeling of being hit repeatedly with a blunt object? I've pulled my hamstring before, but it was not even close to this feeling. It is honestly like my bones have been hurt, not the muscle itself. Anybody else have this terrible ailment that reduces them to tears on the bathroom floor, gasping for air, not sure if you just went to the bathroom or were shot in the rear-end?

I don't ever have to strain when I go to the bathroom. However, I do get this pain when I sleep on a hard mattress on my back all night. I sleep on my back a lot, but I have a temprapedic (sp) mattress and it doesnt hurt when I sleep on that, but when I stay at someone elses house...ouch!!!! I just assumed that is where my pouch was, and as it filled through out the night, the pressure caused it to hurt.

That is what the pain from my abcess feels like. Feels like someone kicked me in the butt, but a solid pain, it does not go away.

Chelsea...that doesn't sound good. Pain that brings to your knees, in tears, needs to be checked out.

I just though of something...it could be from smoking...just kidding...but I wish you'd stop.

Have a fabulous day!

Sounds like the pain I had from my presacral abscess. Wound up with a fever of 105 and in the hospital for 12 days. Your pain is not just but burn. However, if you have a fissure, the pain can be excruciating.

I still get pain there from my enteropathic arthritis too, but nowhere near that intensity.

Ah man, I thought this was normal Frowner

Jan, is it common to get the pain from arthritis after straining? My bones are aching all over my body, but my tailbone only ever hurts right after a BM and the pain only lasts for about 30 seconds to a minute, even though it's absolutely mindblowing. Or does that sound more like an abscess? No, I don't care if that sounds like an abscess, I'd rather not even think about the possibility of it being an abscess.

And cataja, lol- very funny Razzer I am quitting soon. I'm shooting for the end of march. I turn 18 on march 8th, and I honestly just want to be able to buy myself a pack of cigs. But, once I get that out of my system, I'm going to try cold turkey for what will be attempt number 13 in the past 4 years. Hopefully lucky #13. Smiler

I don't think so, Chels. Pain from arthritis is generally more constant, but you can have acute flares. This really sounds like you have an acute inflammation either in the tailbone itself, or in the tissues nearby, such as the ligaments or tendons.

Here is a link to a site with comprehensive information on coccydynia (pain in the tailbone). Hopefully, you can find someone with similar symptoms there and how it was treated.I found the site very helpful when I was having serious tailbone pain.
