I've never had pain after a scoping. And those drugs are SO good. I always ask for a doggy bag for the leftovers but they never provide one. Selfish people. I don't know if you have a stricture or not but people with strictures are often dilated and that's actually a good thing. So don't worry too much about it. Write down your questions so you can ask them when you get there. kathy

kmbr, I've had the dilation 7 or 8 times and each time is a little different. Most of the time you have some bleeding and a little pain after you wake up. After a few hours of resting the pain pretty much subsides and your good to go. I don't beleive that I have had any leakage because of this procedure.
Good Luck

Hi Kmbr. I was actually dilated twice prior to my reversal. My anal opening was too narrow so my surgeon felt the need to dilate it. Both times were done under anesthesia (thank goodness!) He even had to use a pediatric scope the first time cuz it was so narrow. I am now about 6 weeks post reversal and no, I have not had any leakage. After the first dilation (where he did LOTS of work), I was uncomfortable for a 1- 1/2 days. My bottom felt sore and there was a tiny bit of blood. After the second dilation, which only took minutes, I didn't feel an ounce of pain. I guess what I am trying to say is the more dilating he has to do, the more pain you may feel afterwards. At least that was the case for me... Best of luck!

I had dilation pre-reversal and at reversal. Pre-reversal dilation was not a big deal at all. Yes some pain, soreness for a day or so, and bleeding, but nothing troubling at all. No leakages at all yet, knock on wood.

Now I had the opposite. I felt much better after every dialation I have had. If you have any problem with straining the dialation will help that. I have my j-pouch disconnected, and have an end ileo. I still have to be dilated just to have mucus come out correctly, otherwise it starts coming out of my fistula. I don't think I have ever had pain related to any of my dilations...good luck. Have a fabulous day! '85 UC/'09 Crohns '06 j-pouch/'09 end Ileo Life is short...party like a rockstar!!! I don't let my bag define me.
