Has anyone had any experience with biofeedback. Biofeedback, I believe are sessions where they try to reprogram your nerve endings to react differently to pain, pressure etc, by inflating a balloon inside your pouch. I obviously don't have a lot of detail on this subject but would love to hear from someone who has undergone it.

There are different types of biofeedback. I have used it to strenghten my sphincter muscles after they were damaged in a surgery. It can also be helpful for peopel who need to better learn how to empty more effectively, etc. This is often done at a pelvic floor center or similar.

Biofeedback can also be used to help you better learn how to manage pain, stress, and other things. This may or may not be done in a pelvic floor center, but coiuld be done in a pain clinic or a psychologists office.

Biofeedback is not magic or a treatment they DO TO YOU. Rather it is a treatment that uses equipment to help you understand how your own body systems (breathing, muscles, brain waves) are responding to your own thoughts and/or actions-depending on the type of biofeedback you are doing). You can start to learn, when I do/think X this is how my body responds or when I do/think Y I get some different reaction by my body. Then you can gain more conscious control to do/think the the way that your body best gives you the desired reaction.

I am waiting for insurance authorization to do another round of biofeedback for sphincter training as it has been many many years since I did it before. I don't think I will get much additional gain from it, but I did see some positive results the first time i did it, so it may be worth a try.

I had biofeedback for pain many years ago but it didn't help me at all with cervical and lumbar pain. I did have pelvic floor therapy last year to strengthen and relax my sphincter muscle and it worked very well I've had no more problems with emptying my j-pouch.

Thanks JJA and Connie. I am having pain and emptying issues with my pouch which is 3 months old. I am starting with a physio next week To assess pelvic floor problems, but am planning to do the biofeedback training in a few weeks. Hopefully one or both or these strategies works and gives me my life back.
