I am almost four months out from my first surgery and started experiencing pretty severe joint pain around the time I was taken off of prednisone. I had been on percocet prior to my surgery, dalaudid (sp?) while in the hospital and then eventually weaned down to darvocet, which I understood to be milder. HOWEVER I've recently started only taking the darvocet once a day (2 pills) and my joint pain has been KILLER. Now I'm worried that it's not an arthritis problem but a withdrawal problem! I also have a runny nose and feel generally crappy, but my husband feels those symptoms too so that could be a cold/allergies (he's generally very healthy so that would be a strange coincidence).
They are doing an adrenal gland blood test tomorrow to make sure that the joint pain isn't a result of my adrenal glands failing to start working again after coming off of the prednisone. While I would hate hate for it to be that, I would love an answer for my misery. Has anyone withdrawn from Darvocet? What was your experience? I don't want to ask my doc if it is "withdrawal" because I think they'll freak out but I also absolutely do NOT want to be addicted to pain medication! that would be the worst. If you have any thoughts on this I'd really love some help. Thank you so much, JMC |

Did you taper off of the prednisone? Also, what dose of prednisone were you taking and how long ago did you stop taking it? Were you taking prednisone for an extended amount of time? Take a look at this website: http://www.webmd.com/mental-he...arcotic-abuse?page=2. I don't think you are addicted to darvocet...otherwise you would be taking more medicine in order to eliminate your pain. I think that you should definitely discuss your joint pain with your doctor in order for you to get some relief. Don't be afraid to talk to you doctor and ask for help...that is there job. Best of luck to you...keep us posted.

I believe I had prednisone withdrawal after being on prednisone for six years. My physcian did not think so but a naturopath I went to said I had adrenal fatigue from being on prednisone for so long. I was tapered off prednisone very slowly. I stopped taking it completely nearly 8 months ago and I have only started feeling good in the last 2 months. The naturopath I went to but gave some stuff to take and although my physcian did not think it was adrenal fatigue he put me on florinef because I got low blood pressure.
It takes time for your body to adjust not taking prednisone. It may feel like forever to start feeling better but it does eventually happen. I hope some of this helps. |
