A major magazine is interested in this food product and it's use by j-pouch patients.
Please respond and I will give you the details.
Thanks!
Bill

Bill,

I know there have been posts on Salba in the past, do a search and you'll find lots of messages on it.

Hey Big Daddy!

What's Salba? Probiotic of some sort? What do you mix it into?

You can see how much attention I've paid lately.

Hope all is well for you!

Kim

Salba is the same thing as chia seeds. Not available in Norway (of course) so I haven't been able to try it, but lots of poeple on these boards use them. They help thicken the stool, as far as I can tell, so fewer BMs. No probiotics involved, but I think when mixed with water, they produce a gel-like substance which is what's so good for us no-colons.

I ordered a sample from Canada (none were available in the US) after reading about it on this site. It seemed to work great for me!
However, I've been waiting well over a month for my order to come, it was sold out/back ordered at every site I tried. I was told yesterday that order has finally shipped...so stayed tuned for a prolonged trial. Wishing everyone well... j

See the post Matt Frillman started on the topic - it is quite long. He has documented his use there, and I noted my experimentation with it.

I currently do not take it on a regular basis, but use it when I want to slow things way down (if I'm having issues, or if I want to keep from going for a while). 1 tsp with a meal will help bulk things up, and 1 Tbsp seems to reduce frequency for me altogether.

What I did find was that Salba and Metamucil wafers together were too much. It ended up being too difficult to pass stool. Salba by itself would be fine, except that it didn't really bulk at all for me. So, I decided to go back to the Metamucil with meals and supplement with Salba when I eat something like soups, ice cream, etc.

I am using it. I got free samples...but because of some health issues I didn't begin using the Salba until recently. It is working really well for me. It has cut down my bathroom use and I actually feel better. Whatever it is, it is working for me!

It's chia seeds (yes, like the Chia Pet), but a proprietary brand.
