After my daughter's upper gi the doctor thinks she found a stricture. I was watching while the test was being performed and I agree there was a definite thinning. I am pretty sure it is right above her pouch. Both the doctor and I were not sure if it was because of the prior surgery or a true stricture. Now she wants to have a ct to know for sure and if it is they will remove it. Is surgery the normal protocol for this? I am thinking that either way it is too thin (or narrow) and it isn't working properly since she has had diarrhea constantly since her first surgery 6 years ago. Also, Jan had said that her back pain was possibly due to arthritis. Does this type of arthritis affect the ankles too? Sorry for all the questions. I haven't talked to her dr at all yet about much and feel out in left field at the moment.

Karen, I'm not sure how they will deal with the stricture (if it is a stricture).
Is your daughter on Cipro or Flagyl? If so, that could be causing the ankle pain and she should stop taking it. I remember back when I was your daughter's age that I had ankle pain. Back then (the dark, dark, dark ages), it was called 'growing pains.' I'm sure there was actually a reason for the pain rather than that catchall term but no one was ever too concerned about it. And it did go away. I also had horrid knee pain. I could hardly bend them. Good luck and please let us know how things are going. kathy *********************************************************** Lately it occurs to me, what a long strange trip it's been..... Hi, Karen, long time. Sorry about the recent developments. From what I have read, I think peripheral arthritis can affect the ankles and that surgery frequently is done to remove severe strictures. If you have any doubts, I would get a referral to see Dr. Heyman at UCSF for a second opinion. (I can't remember whether you have seen him before or not.)

Kathy, Morgan is not on any meds at all at this point (with the exception of 16 mg imodium a day witch doesn't help much). Her dr wants to wait until all tests have come back. Although she does have growing pains on occasion, her ankles hurt at the joint. I guess it could be growing pains though. We'll have to wait and see.
Connie, How is Thomas? I haven't read too many back posts but I will. Morgan is seeing Dr. Cox's fellow from Stanford, Dr Yinka Davies, in Sutter. I really like her and she is very thorough. So she isn't going to put her on meds or make a plan of attack until all test have been taken. Karen |
