Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone else used curcumin adn what your experience has been. Made a trip to the health food store for it and got something that has tumeric, curcumin and bromeliad in it. The bromedliad is supposed to increase absorption of tumeric and curcumin. I had heartburn at first but getting better now. I get a flex sig in june, so we will see if pouch polyps are smaller and less in number. ) I hope, I hope, I hope) I guess doc will try to burn some of the pesky polyps off. Never had that done before. Just hope theyknock me out at the hospital cause I like it when I wake up and can't remember a thing. Bye for now JJ

I use turmeric daily. I could not fully ascertain the purpose of your use, but am assuming the pouch polyps. I use mine, in conjunction with an NSAID, to help mediate the chronic inflammation in my body. It seems to be very supportive in my case. The only thing I notice is that it will dry me out a little. I consume additional liquids to compensate.

Hi JJ,

As I wrote in an earlier post to you, I take curcumin every day - either as a supplement or by adding the spice turmeric (plus pepper to help with absorption) to my meal at lunchtime.

The supplement I take includes boswellia, quercetin, cayenne, ginger and citrus bioflavonoids and it doesn't cause me any problems (must take with food). I usually can't tolerate supplements, especially multivitamins (major diarrhoea). Also, I had previously tried a supplement called Super Curcumin (760 mg) but that was too strong a dosage for me. I have a book from an Australian University (Herbs and Natural Supplements - An Evidence-based Guide 2007) and it says the dosage range should be:

* powdered turmeric 1.5-3 g per day in water or cooking
* powdered extract (95% curcumin) 100-300 mg per day.

Higher dosages can be used for cancer. Also, don't forget that curcumin has been used for centuries and it is very safe in high dosages.

When you say 'bromedliad', is that bromelain? This is also really good for you.

Nikki

Hi Nikki,

I am using turmeric/circumin extract capsules daily in an attempt to quell my ongoing UC flare (I consider myself 6 months to a year from surgery but haven't commited just yet), along with other supplements, prednisone, Imuran, and TSO ("worms").

So far 2 months into it I can't say it is doing me any good, but it doesn't seem to harm me either so since it reads so well in the literature, and is one of the cheaper supplements, I figure what the heck.
