Do you have to eat the plain yucking tasting yogurt for it to really do any good? I love my yoplait light. I have tried Stoneybrook also, but again...yuck.

You don't like Stonyfield? That is all I eat usually. Try the YoBaby - now that is yummy (but whole milk so it is fattier.)
I also like the Danactiv drinks okay. Stonyfield has a high percentage of probiotics and if you don't like it, you won't like the off-brands which have more (at places like Whole Foods and other stores). |

I loved my Yoplait too. But switched to the Stonyfield. I had to try several times before I liked it. The first few times I made a parfait with strawberries or raspberries with the french vanilla, makes a decent dessert. don't give uo on it try again. Norma |

I think it is important for it to say Live and Active Cultures. Many yogurts only have active cultures.

You don't have to eat the plain yogurt to get the benefits of live and active cultures, just read the labels, many, many brands have them. If you really want to try plain yogurt, try just the plain vanilla flavored one. I made the mistake of buying plain instead of vanilla, and it did not taste good at all!

The best yogurt is a Lebanese yogurt called Lebany. There are different ways it comes. Loose and thick. The loose is better tasting and is great dipping it with flat bread. And because it is so plain it can go on a lot of different food. I have been eating it with chicken and rice. This yogurt really helps my stomach aches out or when the Crohn's is flaring.

I must be a bit of an oddball then because I actually prefer my yoghurt to be plain. In fact I used to make my own using a good quality live yoghurt as a starter. After the first batch I would keep one of the 4oz pots asside to use as my next starter. It would need to be scrapped after about 6 lots because it could get quite sour tasting so I would just go out and buy another pot to start over again.
As well as eating it straight from the pot I'll use it wherever a recipe (sweet or savoury) says to use cream because I really don't like the taste of the real stuff. It makes a great topping to fruit salad and adding some pureed berries such as strawberries or raspberries really makes for a healthy refreshing way to get your probiotics. Hmmmm...... Think I'll just nip to the fridge. All this talk of fresh yoghurt has made me peckish! One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |

This has all been very interesting! I just had an appt with my surgeon yesterday and she suggested trying to make my own also. I am wondering if one machine is better than the others...any suggestions? Also, I've never really been a fan of yogurt. Does anyone have any great recipes for the homemade version?

The product labels for the Stoneyfield Farm yogurts (fat-free, low-fat, whole milk) list six live active cultures regardless of flavor. Good luck on finding something yummy.

I have been a little afraid of all the sugar in the fruit yogurts. Are the live cultures going to be worth the sugar intake?
Shelby...I know you are sugar senstive...Stoneybrook is OK for you? I've never seen alot of the flavors mentioned. I'll have to stop by Whole Foods, they would have a better selection then my grocery. Shell...I love that you "nip" to fridge, when you are a little "peckish". You're too cool! Have a fabulous day! I don't know if its Lebanese but I know its a product from middle east called "Abali" yogurt and goat cheese that I used as a dip for my spicy Kettle patato chips.....um.um.um.

I bought a yogurt maker at William Sonoma last year and have been making my own ever since. It is so easy and then I can add whatever I want to it which is usually just some vanilla, stevia, and whole cut up fruit. Sometimes I even add VSL to give it more kick. I only use organic low fat or fat free milk as well. My GI told me to use Activa but I told her I make my own and boy did I get a funny look.

I don't eat a lot of yogurt. I buy it once in a while for something different. ALL of it has sugar of course but have never noticed a difference w/ yogurt. I SHOULD make my own. Williams Sonoma does have a yogurt maker. I would probably buy that one if I thought I'd use it. You actually don't need a maker to make it...my neighbor makes her own but the process is tedious. |
