Hi there!
I had my j-pouch surgery in 1997. It was just one surgery and I did not have an illeostomy. I'm wondering how many bowels movements seem to be the norm. I pretty much go everytime I pee. I take 2 fibercon a day and 5 2mg loperimide (imodium) per day. Is that pretty much the normal medication for other people? I'm unclear about some things. Do other people take imodium also? Any info would be much appreciated!

Noir,

If you want, you can use the 'Find' feature at the top of the discussion and find lots of threads about whatever topic you are interested in.

You will find that most people take either immodium or lomotil to help regulate their frequency. I am taking 1 immodium / day right now. Some people take 8 / day or more.

The statistical averages for frequency are 5-7 times/24 hours. Some people go as few as 3 times and others regularly go 10+ times (and are just used to it).

I also take fiber daily - 1 Metamucil wafer with each meal. It really seems to help.

I had my TD May 2006 so it's been about 18 months now with my pouch. I usually go about 6 times a day depending on what I eat. If I eat more fresh fruits and veggies I go more but I don't mind.

I don't take any immodium or metamucil but sometimes I wonder if it would help.

Thanks a bunch for all your replies! I'm going to look over some more of the threads on this site. I just found it a couple of weeks ago. I can't believe I've never thought to look for J-pouch site before.
Thank You!

I don't take any fiber supplements or immodium, but I also don't count how many times a day I go; I just go when I pee, it's easiest.
