I am 9 years post op and I still have scars from the staples. I am not concerned about them just curious if it's common.

I had staples when I had a breast reduction in 1994, and still have the spots outside the scarline.
So I am not sure if they will ever go away, I am just used to them being there. Beth who want's to be normal- that can be so boring |

Yep, I still have my staple scars too. It's kind of funny because the staple scars are more noticeable than the actual scar itself.

I don't have staple scars but my wound scar is still noticeable (although now highly faded) as it's been 16 years since my surgery. I did have about 40 or so staples from what I recall. My scar is somewhat hidden by the fact that I have hairy chest and abdomen but people sometimes ask me about it.

My staple scars disappeared after a couple of years and after about 12 years the main incision flattened and paled out, plus the hair made good camouflage. Now i've got a brand new 10" scar with 64 little red dots that I hope will fade away asap. I read somewhere that you can break down the scar tissue with massage but I never tried it.

I used vitamin E oil on my scar which was recommended by my dermatologist. Regular application of the oil softens the scar, reduces redness and promotes rapid healing.

When did you start applying the vitamin E and what form did you use?

norn,
I started probably shortly after the staples were out and the wound healed (it's been 16 years now so I don't remember exactly when). I bought it at a local pharmacy. I don't recall what brand it was, but it was vitamin E oil with an applicator brush. It is sold at any pharmacy. I have also used it on other scars. Here is an informative article on vitamin E being used for scars: http://ezinearticles.com/?Vitamin-E-For-Scars&id=204770 This message has been edited.
