Last week I went through the worst (first time) case of butt burn I can ever imagine. So the question is, do you continue to put on creams or ointments after it is cleared up as a precaution?

I usually use the creams for a week or so after everything seems to be cleared up then I quit using them till needed.
I found that I really didn't need to use creams once I figured out my dietary restrictions which is a good thing because the creams (and I have tried lots of them) seem to irritate my skin if I use them too long.

I only used creams for a few months post op. Now, I only use them for a day or two when I have a little irritation. One problem with using them when you don't need them is that they can promote fungal infections by trapping moisture and fungus in.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Like others, I only use creams when my bottom is irritated. Calmoseptine or Desitin seems to take care of any irritation within a day or so. It's wonderful that it is such an easy fix. Sometimes, when I know I'm going to be eating a food which will not pass without burning, I use cream in advance. Usually, though, I just tell myself, "This, too, shall pass." I tough it out during the short time the culprit food needs to pass through and out of me. Not bad, really.

I have never had butt burn so rarely used the ointments but at my last scope my surgeon said the periannal area was irritated. I was surprised by the diagnosis as I don't feel any irritation? So my new routine is, when I can remember, I salve my butt before bed, just like I moisturize my hands and face (different creams, though!).

WHAAAAT You lucky dog! How do you do it? I am getting frustrated with the itch because it has no rhyme or reason with food and it comes at such a regular time (early eve). Do you a certain diet or do you eat what you want. I suppose you don't gain weight either
You know I'm kidding.....really, good for you I know I don't get a lot of things people would envy also. I thank God for all I do have.

I hardly have butt burn anymore, but when I do I'll take a sitz bath or two and that will take care of it. I dry the area off REALLY WELL, the dryier the better, I find for me. Creams never did a thing for me but seem to make it worse.
See if a nice very warm sitz bath will help, and dry your bottom real good.

I am not careful about what I eat, sometimes I just prefer to pay the consequences. I love food, lol. Anyhow, I just use a little A&D ointment for a few movements after I have had the offencing food. For the most part, I really don't have to use creams anymore. As a matter of fact, I was just thinking the other day that my purse is lighter due to not having to carry wipes and cream with me anymore like I had to do when my jpouch was new. Becky
In fact....I find toilet paper with a little texture, instead of the ultra smooth variety, cleans better! After awhile, your bottom can tolerate the roughness of textured T.P.!!!!
