So since I'm trying to think positively about takedown next week, my mother and I decided to plan a party for late July to celebrate my newfound health after so many years of being sick and then all these surgeries. To take my mind off of my worries next week, she went and had a banner made for the party. It says:
Colonfest 2007: Repiped and Ready to Flush. Don't you just love family? Michelle UC dx: 2/02 Step 1 (colectomy): 11/2/06 Step 2: 2/23/07 Obstruction surgery: 03/2/07 Step 3: 6/20/07 Reversal of takedown: 10/3/07 Surgery for port install: 12/3/07 Fistula repair surgery: 4/8/08 Takedown #2: 6/4/08 |

hahahaha reminds me of my younger brother when I was getting my surgeries he took a picture of me on photoshop, put me in a sombrero and said "Here's to Your Mexican Stomach Stapling" I didn't get what he meant at first but since I was chubby then from steroids and always complaining about my weight and he said i should think of my surgeries like this: that it's just getting rid of all my bad stuff south of the border lol

Hahahaha me and my mom used to watch wheel of fortune all day in the hospital and one day she looks at me and goes, "I'd like to buy a bowel!" It was SO funny. God, we had some good times at UMASS.

It is always good to have a sense of humor about these things! Before my husbands 1st step we had a party for him- complete with a cake that said "bon voyage, colon!" You should have seen the look on the face of the gal at the bakery who inscribed it- she thought we were crazy!
(BTW, I am sitting in his room right now as he had his take down yesterday.. so far so good!) |

I used to have a party the night before surgery just to keep my mind off my worries. Then, a year after my last surgery (11th) I had a celebration party where they sang, "Happy no ileostomy to you!" While they were singing they were holding a zip lock bag full of hamburger greese so I could get the full effect. That was kind of gross; it really did remind me of the bag. Ah, family and friends.
Enjoy your celebration. "...all things work together for the good of those that love Him..." Romans 8:28 |
