Hi Everyone
A while back I read some postings were cheese and milk products were removed from the diet and results were satisfactory.I decided maybe to try and remove cheese from my diet.I was not prepared for the results,I now may only visit the bathroom 4 times aday, more if I have wine.It has been this way now for over 3 weeks and the only thing I did was remove cheese.I do have chronic pouchitus but I take cipro for that and it,s fine, but the cheese thing was instantainious. My question is ,has this happened to any one else and can cheese cause a person to have more out put. With the cheese I was going about 8 times in a day.
Thanks
Matt

Everyone is different. My daughter eats lots of cheese and it has no effect on her at all. It is a personal thing. But glad to hear you are doing better without it.

Matt, that's great! But did you know that you're supposed to avoid dairy with cipro? I only found out by chance since I read the little information leaflets with medicine always Roll Eyes The pharmacist and doctor didn't mention it, but the info in the Norwegian packet said no dairy at all so-and-so long before and after taking the cipro, which had to be taken with food. I ate very small and frequent meals so while on Cipro there was bascially no window for dairy at all, but I saw on a US website that they say you just have to avoid milk and yoghurt, but cheese is ok. Go figure.

This is because calcium blocks uptake of cipro. Therefore it is advised not to take dairy product near cipro. I was taking cipro 500 mg twice a day (at breakfast and night time) and would not take any milk/cheese at same time. Otherwise I would have to go more often. Keep cheese for your lunch it would be a pity to cut it out entirely.

Hi Everyone
I had no Idea about that I,m not to have dairy with cipro. But it explains to me why I would have bad days,if dairy blocks the absorbtion of cipro that means i,m going to feel the effects of my pouchitus more,IE more frequency.Soph,Nikki, thanks so much for your thoughts,it all make sense now. As for the cheese I was eating,it was old cheddar type,or motzerella, and I would eat cheese almost every day,of course i,m not doing it now.
Thanks everyone ,I can get more imfo here than from my surgeon.

I find all dairy to make me pretty gassy. But I eat it anyway (I mean come on, ICE CREAM!). I have my temp ileostomy, but if I continue to do this after takedown, will it cause pain?

Hi SKH
I like icecream to,but I guess it,s off the list for now.Gas is a funny thing with the pouch, sometimes you can passs it with no problems, other times you make want to find a washroom to do it.I don,t know if I would call it painfull right now when I have gas,it,s just a sensation I can do with out,I just hate the way it feels .It was sorta painfull right after surgery so you may want to go easy on foods that cause gas,as it can cause some grief and make you feel uncompfortable. When is your take down?
