Surgeon called me today; Takedown (take II - 2007) is scheduled for Monday – June 4th.

He did a short exam on me recently in his office that showed no Pouchitis, but a little narrowing around the Cuff. A Pouch study last week showed no issues. So after 10 months with a temp-reversal to let my Pouch settle down, he gave the OK for the possible Takedown.

He is going to put me under anesthesia and start with a full exam, there a few scenarios he will consider:

1) If everything looks OK, he will proceed with the takedown
2) If the narrowing is a stricture he will dilate it, then depending on how bad it is he will either go through with the takedown or back-out to let the stricture heal for a few weeks
3) If the Cuff is inflamed or doesn’t look good, he will back-out

I’ve had stricture dilatations and the recovery from them was brutal, so we decided that if there is a stricture and he has a hard time dilating it, it doesn’t make sense to proceed with the Takedown. And for obvious reasons, if my Cuff is still inflamed I don’t want to go back (and may never will…).

Bill congrads on everything! I hope all goes the way you want it to. I understand your situation 100% (as you know I am goig this fri to be disconnected because of pouchitis and cuff issues). I know whatever the outcome you will accept it and live a great life - fingers crossed for you on June 4th!
