Maybe this info is already here on this site? I couldn't find it.

Are there any j-pouchers who had UC that are medication-free? No antibiotics, narcotics, anti-diarrhea, UC meds, etc.?

Thanks,

~~~Jenivi~~~
Yes! I take nothing! I have taken immodium in the past to help reduce night time trips to the bathroom, but that was more than a year ago.
I think most of the people you are wondering about don't come to this site. I believe Holly (from Florida) is pretty healthy.
Ever since my J-pouch surgery (two step), I take nothing for bowel function. Absolutely nothing. I do take a multi vitamin which I'd take even if I hadn't had the surgery. It is such a joy to be steroid free! I don't need immodium or antibiotics or uc meds. When I have a bout of pouchitis....which is rare....I do take a course of Flagyl and that takes care of that!
I do not take any meds. Vitamins and VSL#2 DS, but that is it.
I have been on Cipro twice in 2 1/2 years for pouchitis, and may take an Immodium if I feel like I am running a bit loose and have somewhere to go.
Yeah, me too. I haven't taken anything other than vitamins since I weaned off prednisone a couple years back.
Like Nicole, I'll dip into my massive store of loperamide if needed (if I remember correctly, I was taking them like Marv from Sin City at one point), but that's very rarely. Pro-biotics and such seem to handle whatever issues I have.
Needless to say, tis very, very cool.
I take nothing on a regular basis that's digestive related. An occassional immodium and if I get pouchitis I'll take the flagyl and cipro. But that's rare so far (10 months post td).
I take nothing myself. Just vitamins that I want to take lol.
No meds at all, I haven't had any types of meds since after my last surgery. I never have problems either.
Once in a while I take some immodium and down a wafer.
THANKS!
Well I'm an s-poucher, and I'm going through a revision now, but before that... just probiotics to help pouch function, Centrum and Citrical calcium to battle the osteopenia from the six months of steriods during my short battle with UC.
I do take imodium now around 1 a day, and I do drink metamucil twice a day. But I don't consider this "medicine" - it is just maintance to help keep me more predictable. I'm considering weening with time and seeing what happens.
Just probiotics to help keep pouchitis at bay. I take a 10 day course of flagyl for pouchitis when I get it (so far I get pouchitis about once every 6 months - pouch is almost 18 months old).
I,ve had my pouch for approx 20 months now and dont take any medication.I take metamucil capsules 3 times a day and a probiotic every morning.So far so good and no pouchitis yet!I constantly keep my fingers crossed.Initially I was told taking loperamide would help in decreasing the number of times I go in a day,but after suffering with UC for 20 years and many medications I declined.Urgency is not an issue,I dont count bowel movements.I'm happy with how things have worked for me and I feel incredibly lucky not to have take any medication.
YES!I am very healthy. I take nothing. I don't even drink water.
I have great labs, I sleep all night and even when I wake I usually don't go for several hrs after coffee.
I am not an exercise person but I am in great shape. Good genes.
I have had my pouch 20 years and get scoped yearly. The doc says everything is great. I never had pouchitis or any other problems like fistulas, fissures, strictures, etc. I had one abscess 10 years after j pouch and that was repaired during a hysterectomy 10 years ago.
I watch what I eat.
That's what works for me.
I am pain fee, UC free, no bledding or anemia, no more transfusionsdrug free. That beats suffering with UC as I did for 13 years. It is what it is.
