Well, the countdown begins. My hip surgery/repair is on Wednesday. I am sitting at work trying desperately to concentrate - ha! Not happening. My stomach is in knots and all I want to do is go home and curl up in bed and go to sleep and wake up when it is all over.

Hi Tricia,
I know how terrified you are of this surgery but just think of it as your means of achieving your goal of doing a full marathon! Trust me, after what you've been through this will be a walk in the park in comparason! I really don't have much to add except that Frank and I are keeping everything crossed for an easy and speedy recovery. Keep us posted and say hi to Suzan from us. Take care One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |

Hang in there, Tricia. Everything will work out just fine. I'm sure you won't need it but we'll all be sending out good vibes your way (and Suzan's). Remember to ask for that huge suitcase sized valium to help calm you down beforehand. The operation and recovery will be over and you'll be back training for the next marathon before you know it.

Good Luck Tricia. We will be praying for you. Kim

Thanks everyone. Today has been better. Last night I ran out of the Olive Garden right before my birthday cake was delivered to the table.
Arival time is 8:30 am and procedure is at 10:00 am. I will have my last big piece of ice cream birthday cake at 11:30 pm tonight right before the cutoff for food and drink. I will keep you posted. Tricia |

Dear Tricia,
Hope you get this before surgery. Good vibes and happy thought are being sent your way from here in Columbus. I'm sure we'll hear good news from you after surgery. Diagnosed with Chronic Ulcerative Colitis in 1986. First-step of 2-step j-pouch surgery January 9, 2006. Takedown June 16, 2008. |

Best of luck, Tricia, for a speedy and smooth recovery. I agree with everyone who said waiting is the toughest part. We patients should be called "impatients" instead! LOL
Oh and happy belated birthday too! UC Dx March 2004; Colectomy 3/31/04, j-pouch formation 7/7/04, takedown 10/13/04 |

Well, surgery went well. I made it home yesterday evening around 5:00 pm. Pain isn't too bad as long as I take my Vicodin every 4 hours. I am on crutches for 7-10 days and am only allowed partial weight on my left leg. The stiffness in my hip is the worst part. The doc cleaned up the tear and also shaved some of the neck of the femur as that is what was catching on the labrum.
The wild thing about this surgery was my anesthesiologist just happened to be the same one who I had for my emergency surgery the night I went septic! He remembered me from that night (I guess it was hard to forget). The whole room was in tears when we realized that this was the man who played a crucial role in keeping me alive through that surgery. He told me how close I came to death and how scared he was for me that night. On top of all this it turns out that him and I share the same birthday May 13th! I was still scared as hell being rolled down that hallway, but it helped knowing I was in such talented hands. Tricia |

Tricia;
First off...Happy belated birthday! It's good to hear that you are doing well post op. Now the short wait for recovery! Although it does sound as if you are well on your way to health again. I'm so glad you got to meet the anesthesiologist from your last surgery. Especially considering how sick you were at the time and knowing what a key role he played in your survival. It's always a nice feeling to know there are multiple people in the OR that you are comfortable with. Please follow the doctors "rules" and get back on your feet soon! Thanks for updating us! Michele You have to get thru the clouds to enjoy the sunshine |

Tricia,
That is so cool that you got to meet the anesthesiologist who was with you in emergency surgery. It proves that they really do care about you as a person and he was worried too. I understand how scared you are of hospitals and surgery and you should be proud that you did what you had to do and made it through this hip surgery. I hope you feel better soon. Donna |
