hi, what happens to your scar the more times the surgeon "opens" you? Does it get bigger and thicker, or eventually fade and/or stay about the same?

thanks,

I have been opened 3 times. The last time was 3 years ago. It does widen a bit each time but has faded quite a bit too. My stomach was my best feature when I had my first surgery at 29 years old, but now I look at it differently. My scar is a great memory of survival and I love it. Best luck to you.

i have been opened up twice, and my scar did get larger. but it didn't help that they only put half the amount of staples in the second time so it could drain. the average width is about 1/2 inch, but down lower it is almost and inch!! crazy how wide it is.

I've been opened up 4 times and it widened a bit but only slightly. The last time I was opened was in May 2005 and it has certainly faded alot since then.

I have been openned 5 times...3 times for surgery related to UC and 2 c-sections. The place I was cut 5 times in nicer looking then the area I was cut 3 times. The surgeon during my last c-section removed the old scar tissue and cleaned up my scar.

Well I have been opened up 11 or 12 times through the same scar and each time my surgeon takes "a wide margin" when he cuts so he actually rmoves all of the old scar tissue and pulls me back together again...it stretches the skin a bit but it I did not 'split open' each time I would have a great scar...this one is a disaster with the scar reopening again and again so I have a ripple in the middle but the top and bottom look ok with about a half inch of pink area...it depends on how you heal and if you widen or thicken naturally...for me I hate the look of it but if this last surgery works I don't care..I can always get it fixed up later on ...Enjoy the scar..it means that you have yet again survived another one!

My scar is barely visible, unless your specifically looking for it. (I have quite a bit of belly hair that makes it not so easy to see.......)

If you look, you can see my vertical scar.

You can still see my temp ostomy scar.

I wear my scars proudly, they are my badges of a battle won. Smiler
