i had my first surgery a few weeks ago and every time i empty my bag, a decent amount of mucous comes out my rear. My dr didnt mention it when i left the hospital but i let him know it happened and he said it's normal. Even weeks after surgery, a decent amount comes out several times a day. Is this something that happens to everyone?

Yes, this is normal. No one mentioned it to me, either, before it happened but when I asked my surgeon's nurse she said that it is expected.

Take Care,
Nicole

Definitely normal, just something that gets over looked among everything else.

Great sign of good things to come! Once you are reconnected, that mucus will help your stool move through and out of you! People told me to try to clench those anal sphincter(s) and try to hold that mucus in. Good luck! That stuff is soooooo slippery! Not being able to hold it in is NO indication of the control you will have once you are reconnected!
