OK, Stupid question...has anyone tried using Alli? With all of the buzz about the problems with anal leakage (made me laugh when 'others' complained that they a had a leak!) I am wondering if has contributed to my leakage problem...I have a continent K pouch

I've never tried it but my friend with no GI issues did. She said if you ate something you shouldn't it causes a little diarrhea. So for us I don't think it would work since a little loose stool is nothing new to us. Can't answer your leakage question sorry! But at least I bumped the question up so maybe someone new will read and respond.

I think that is one thing TOTALLY OFF THE TABLE for us with UC, Crohns or j-pouches. Normal use can give the same symptoms we often get anyway with our conditions and it would be foolish to take something like Alli that could/would aggravate symptoms we are constantly working to avoid.

Hmmm...I have been considering Alli. But I have a end ileo. So no leakage. But it does prevent the absorbtion of fat...hmmm...wondering. Smiler

Have a fabulous day!

Hi Cataja,
Yes, it does 'absorb' the fat so to speak...it kind of seperates and surrounds it so that your stool has little fat puddles in it (yuk) but it is very effective when eating large quantities of fat..like during a B-B-que or any other event where you let yourself go...(in my case daily)...I started using its big sister drug(forgot the name) about 7 yrs ago...and it worked great (remember I have a k pouch so I need things to be liquid and slippery to pour out a tube)..it allowed me to eat carbs, pizza etc without blocking up my pouch and pulled out the fat too...
With a J pouch it may be a mild disater. According to Dr. C in Toronto it may be the cause of the leak...my valve got too slippery and with the excess gas pressure and a twisty movement I had and unexpected 'escape'!
I am hoping he is right...
You need really strong sphincter control to make it work for you or an end ileo...
Try it for a couple of days...I never found that it caused cramps or excess gas...
