Just wondering if anyone has had their takedown procedure earlier then expected due to stoma complications. For the past 2 weeks I've been having about half and half, half of my waste is going to my ostomy bag they other half is finding it's way down to my pouch and out my rectum. There's supposed to be two holes in my stoma(loop ileostomy) but now all I can see is one I'm guessing the other one went below skin level. Just wodering if anyone had this type of problem and what they did. I've been about 1 month and a week past shortening my rectal cuff. My Doctor said it was ok past 3 weeks for fecal matter to be in the pouch.

Given that some people actually have it all done in one step, going in early for takedown really shouldn't be a problem. But I do know that there are people who had their takedown done early for similar reasons.

Good luck!

THis isn't rare at all. Dennis was passing almost as much thru the pouch as he was thru the stoma for most of his 6 months between temp ileo and pouch removal. CCF said as long as it wasn't blood, there was no worry. His stoma also became "unattached" on the bottom side and if not prolapsing, would retract under the skin.
I know when the pouch had times of putting out more than the ostomy, Dennis would get very upset and irritated. I suspect it was very psychological. His pouch didn't work right when it was supposed to and then the ostomy wasn't working right when it was supposed to. I'm not sure I would read anything into this as to your future.
Your surgeon would make the best call as to when he thinks you are ready for takedown. Although early shouldn't be a problem, I'd err on the side of caution (but that's just me......)
Loops are just tricky things. Dennis's first didn't do this so I think he was surprised. When I was initially concerned about Dennis's pouch output, there were many here with the loop that let me know it was pretty normal.
On the good side, I take this as a sign the recal cuff shortening worked!! Still wishing you the very best success! When is your takedown?

Originally they wanted to have the takedown in 3 months which would be late march or early april. I'm going up to see Dr. Fazio and for follow up visit in a week, so I guess I'll see what he says there. You mentioned no blood but I'm also having some blood and mucus still mixed with the poop coming out my rectum. As I said I'm having a lot come out still, but I was also wondering because I'm always having a lot of leaking. Just wondering if that will just get even worse with a takedown. Any ideas.
