My GI doctor recently had me start the probiotic "Align".....

Anybody else try it?

Side effects?

I have been on 3 days and so far it sucks... BMs have increased along with butt burn.....

Any feedback on probiotic side effects would be greatly appreciated...

Cassidy

I was curious about that drug. I am sorry that it is giving you a hard time. I could not find its website either.

The website is:

http://www.aligngi.com

I am going to take it at least 2 weeks before I give up on it...

But within a few hours of popping the little pill, my stomach starts "gurgling".. and then eventually I get a burning sensation in the rectal area..

I know a lot of probiotics can cause some bloating and associated issues the first week that you take it... but I can't find anything on the internet about a "burning" sensation and probiotics...

Because of the cost and the difficulty in getting Align I decided to start with a less expensive Probiotic - Nature's Bounty Acidophilus $6.13 for 100 capsules. So far I like it along I am going poop a bit more but without gas or bloating and less butt burn. From what I read here I'm glad I din't spend the money on Align.

I take Align for my stomach (chronic gastritis) and I am doing well on it. I do not have a pouch (have an end illeo) but I have not experienced any increased gas on it. I have been taking it for three months now. I order it through drugstore.com and have it set up for auto reorder. By purchasing it through them it is automatically paid for by my FSA card. It is the only Probiotic I have found that is FSA approved.

Regarding FSA approval for supplements. Any probiotic (or other supplement) is approved for FSA reimbursement as long as you have a doctor's statement of medical need. This letter has to be renewed annually, but it is just a simple memo stating what you are taking and for what purpose. I get approval for calcium supplements, Culturelle, vitamin E supplements, and folic acid supplements with this letter.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

This is why I love this site! Thank you Jan and Tricia. I never realized you could claim supplements etc thru your FSA!

Is this a newer pro-biotic? My gyn doc recently gave me a coupon for $10 off. I figured they must be really expensive or just new and trying to promote their product. I haven't gotten it yet.
