are you getting prescription immodium? i don't think they come in chewable. I hve always bought over the counter and ins does not pay that is why i chose lomotil, they are smaller to swallow and cheap. I get 720 for $5 with ins. the dr writes for 8 a day x 90 days

I have been taking the prescription loperamide capsules for over 12 years. I've never seen an undigested capsule come out. Capsules are just gelatin and digest more readily than many pills. Jan
Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Are there chewable generic versions of loperamide?

Imodium purchased at the local pharmacy was traditionally sold in a small caplet format (more like a hard oval shaped pill than an actual capsule, which is breakable into two pieces). More recently it has been offered in a new chewable tablet version. I take the chewable imodium. I feel it's a no brainer to take them in that format if you don't have a colon. While I never saw one of the hard non gelatinous caplets come out undigested, who knows how well you really digest them. The chewables are already digested when they hit your gut. I see no reason to tempt fate on an issue like this. The chewable imodium have a minty flavor but the loperamide leaves an aftertaste so they should be washed down with an appropriate beverage to wash away the aftertaste. To me the aftertaste is very mild. But remember it is not candy - it is in chewable format so you can easily digest it.

I actually love the chewables - almost like candy to me! (which I can't eat because it has too much sugar)
