Hello everyone. I need advice. I recently had my takedown surgery- monday 26th - and had a horrible week after in the hospital. Well now im out and in lots of pain. I think i may have a hemroid (sp?), adding to my already VERY painful rectum. my mom said i shouldnt use the cream that we have here cause it could cause bad reactions if it is the wrong kind. Anyone have any suggestions on creams, or anything to ease the pain down there? I wanna go to school, but im in too much pain.

Wanting to be better now,
Katie

For me what seemed to help with the burning at first was the desitin cream and LOTS and LOTS of water. I drink about a gallon a day from wake up to bed and that burning has stopped. My surgery was on Dec 1 2006

Hi,
If it is a hemmorroid, they can really hurt. I used good ol' hemorroid cream and it worked. After that I dealt with the soreness following lots and lots of acidic BMs. I used - and still use - barrier creams and numbing creams for that. If it is a hemmorroid, at least it'll pass!

I had really bad butt burn after takedown. I had a little table set up next to the toilet with all sorts of remedies. I tried Desitin and it did not work. I tried the aveeno kind and it did not work. What I did find that helped was calmoseptine. My doctor gave me samples to try. It has an analgesic(sp?) in it which make the area a little tingly which for me was much better than the pain.
Good luck!

The only things that helped me were hot baths and Calmoseptine. Even if you have to take 2 - 3 baths a day to get through it. I know its bad but its short lived.....at least mine was.

Oh and don't avoid eating for fear of pooping, it seems to be worse with gas and acid problems.

You haven't mentioned what you're eating. Some surgeons believe it is just fine to eat anything your heart desires. The problem is your heart may desire a certain food but your "butt" may not! I started out with bland very simple foods for quite some time after takedown. Then, I added one food at a time to see how my "butt" reacted. If it complained, I stopped eating the culprit food for awhile. Now, several years later, I know which foods work for me and which don't. That doesn't mean I have eliminated those which cause butt burn. I simply prepare my butt ahead of time by smearing my butt with barrier cream before eating or drinking the culprit food/drink. All of this takes trial and error. Eventually, it becomes habit to plan ahead....or not! The discomfort is usually short lived, until the food causing the problem has passed out of me! Best wishes for figuring out your particular situation.

This may be a gross answer but what the hey, this is a gross site Wink What exactly is this Butt Burn that everyone is talking about? As for my diet, my mom's friend brought over a HUGE thing of animal crackers and man did they dry me up. But it still hurts inside. Even when I dont have to go, it hurts! my parents are sooooo sick of me complaining Frowner Eeker

Katie,

I have hemorrhoids as well and my surgeon told me to use any OTC hemorrhoid cream with zinc sulfate in it. I find the Anusol Plus helps.

Warm baths help tremendously as well. I have a sitz bath that I use A LOT. At first after TD it was more comfortable to just sit in the tub but now I really enjoy my sitz when things are acting up.

I also use alcohol free flushable wipes, they help get me cleaner than regular TP and they are cool on the skin.

As for the Butt Burn, basically it is caused by your BMs being acidic and 'burning' on exit. Keep a note of what foods you are eating, trying a very bland diet and start re-introducing other foods. For me, milk products killed!!! Eeker but foods are all very personal, some can tolerate dairy with no issues but not me...

Things will get better!
