Hey guys.
Just wondering what this is related too. All day today my chest, gall bladder area and guts have felt so tight. I still get pain whenever I do anything. Even lifting the darn container of Gatorade makes the gall bladder hurt. It's not excruciating, but it does get pretty crampy and bad at times. It mostly feels like something pushing. At night it's very bad and I can't sleep. I finally realized it's gas.. took me awhile because gas usually hurts and feels different.. this just makes me feel tight all over. I'm not really swollen much, just a tiny bit in my chest and guts.
My stools are difficult to pass and require much straining, never feels like I'm empty. Consistency is like peanut butter and I'm still seeing a lot of undigested food. Mostly vegetables.. looks like I chewed 'em and they skipped digestion. Food is passing through me very fast.
Going to call the surgeon, my GI didn't even get my blood results back yet.
I am not chewing gum, no straws, no soda, not drinking at the same time as eating.. no gassy veggies.. what gives?
Is this gas probably caused by the gall bladder? If so, why? I'm trying to research and understand but I'm just drawing a blank. (And I feel like I'm ready to float away)
Thank you.

Sarah

Hmmmmmmm... Here's my thoughts. I don't know if you are taking metamucil fiber wafers, but they sure help me empty more completely. If I don't take them, I not only get watery BM"s but I also feel like I have to go again after I go to the bathroom.

I would recommend a high fiber diet consisting of high fiber bread ( there is a "double fiber" bread ), and high fiber cereals. I don't forsee any problem with a high fiber diet. I would take either one or two metamucil fiber wafers after breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Fiber acts as a broom to sweep along the tiny digested particles through your digestive tract.

I also think you could chew more. True, food is passing rather quickly, and you can slow it down by taking either immodium or lomotil, but the first step in the digestive process is to chew, chew, chew. ( I confess I'm guilty of not practicing what I preach ).

The feeling of pressure / gas is a mystery to me. My gut feeling is that you might either have scar tissue that is "pulling" on something, or possibly a hernia ( long shot, but a remote possiblity ).

Of course, take this with a grain of salt as this is just my two cents worth and I don't portray myself as a know-it-all. I'm only trying to help Wink

Hope you get some definative answers Smiler

Johnny

Hi Johnny, thanks!
I have been chewing my food a heck of a lot more since I noticed the undigested food, still have the same problem.
I'm using the powdered metamucil currently.. I just don't water it down as much as I'm supposed too. When all is well I will try the wafers again, they don't seem to work as well for me though.
I'm just worried about this sudden huge amount of gas and where the heck it came from.
Thanks for the info!

Sarah

Sarah....I pass alot of what looks like undigested food because I eat alot of fresh fruit and veggies....skins and all. Some of this is just insoluable fiber, I guess. It doesn't worry me because I consider it my own internal "Brillo pad"! I like keeping my stools rather liquidy and so I don't use Metamucil, etc. Used to, though, and I, too, preferred the powder form because it seemed to work better for me. I do have lots of gas but, fortunately, have no problem expelling it. I see gas as a positive occurance in that it pushes the stool out of me. If I do feel bloated I lie down on the bed on my right side with my legs brought up toward my chest. Within minutes the gas escapes. Typically, though, I am able to release the gas on the toilet. HOpe you find some answers soon.

I never could take Metamucil. Caused excess gas for me, and this is one of the more common side effects. I had much better luck with Citrucel. I'd try switching to a different type of fiber supplement if I were you.

Oh. I thought it was related to whats been going on. I passed some gas through the night but I still feel like a hot air balloon.
The metamucil has been really helpful, I used to take Citrucel but it didn't work as well. Since this is the first time this happened, and I had SO much gas, I can't help thinking maybe something else was to blame.
Oh well. I will lay off the metamucil for today and see if I can find my old container of Citrucel. Thank you.

I'm not saying that it is, just a possibility, especially when you are having other issues going on. If you are having GB, pancreas, or obstruction issues, you may not be digesting well and more likely to have gas problems. Most gas is caused by bacteria acting upon undigested carbohydrates.
