Thanks everyone for the info on Ilex and calmosepline. I'm getting them today. What I wanted to know is it normal to have so much mucous coming out of the pouch after it is created, but not yet working, causing so much butt burn? I read about butt burn on this site all the time, but it seems everyone talks about it after takedown. My 16 year old daughter is suffering so, and she won't have takedown for another 5 months. Does the mucous let up? Is there relief in site?

Mila,
Having the discharge is "normal". I had a lot of it after my first surgery. It did seem to calm down after a couple of months - but I too was worried in the beginning. Hopefully the creams will help her. A good tip when she is urinating - lean forward so the urine does does not touch the buttocks (or stand). I still do this when I'm experiencing butt burn.
Wishing her well,
DeAnna

It IS normal and sometimes reduces in amount and sometimes doesn't. But given what your daughter has been through, I would just check with her doctor (or another doctor other than the one that cut this and that). I can't believe what she's been through - and you too. I know how difficult this must be for you. It's almost more difficult on the caregiver who has to sit feeling helpless and not be able to do anything to assist.

I don't know how you feel about your daughter's doctors but I think I'd be a little leary about now. Yes, things can happen. But it seems that there were a few too many 'things.' Please keep dropping by and letting us know how things are progressing. There's a huge resource here and some incredibly knowledgeable people - with Jan at the top of the heap. If you have questions, I'm sure Jan can answer them in a straightforward logical and CALMING way.

I'm sending HUGE healing vibes and healthy thoughts your way!

Mila, I just had a temp ileostomy done last month, and I get mucous too. Some days it's more than others. I've been told by my surgeon that it's normal. I hope the creams work for her and she gets relief soon.
