Kolitis Kid, Both surgeons have a great reputation here and in Boston. I will also add Dr. Becker at Mass General, he is know as a great surgeon also. I myself had Dr. Mowschenson and would recommend him, he is a great surgeon, and well respected. The best part about Dr. Mowschenson is his availability, I have never once waited to spaeak to him, he is always available and replies to e-mail usually within hours of receiving them. My advice on picking a surgeon is research well(which you seem to be doing) and go with the surgeon that you like the most, don't be pressured by a surgeon or family to pick a certain person. Oh also the nursing staff at the Beth israel are great, so thats another bonus of going with Dr. Mowschenson. Good Luck, Scott MC

I also had Dr. Mowschenson and I have nothing but great things to say about him. I think he is an amazing surgeon and, like Scott said, he is always available to speak with. I've emailed him numerous times since my surgeries and he almost always gets back to me within a few hours... even if he's on vacation In addition to Dr. M, all of my doctors are at Beth Israel and I think they have a great staff no matter what you go there for. If you are really torn between the two surgeons, I would make appointments with both and see who you feel most comfortable with. Sarah

I sent you a PM with more details, but I would recommend Dr Roberts at the Lahey, or Dr Mowschenson at the BI

Thanks everyone for your replies, which are greatly appreciated. I am plannning on having this surgery sometime in September, but first I am going to have one more pathologist review my slides as I was diagnosed with lgd during a flare-up.
I have Tufts insurance and am also wondering what people's experiences are getting surgery approved, but that is probably a topic for another day! Thanks again.

My daughter had her surgeries at Beth Israel with Dr. Nagle. She was terrific, did an amazing job at taking care of her, and she has gone above and beyond with aftercare from a distance. She did it lapro and my daughter has not had a bit of trouble since her takedown which was in Feb of 07 and goes 4-6x a day. Hope this helps!

I had step one with Dr. Mowschenson at Beth Israel in late May. I'm very happy with the outcome of my surgery and I'm having him do my takedown in Sept. Glad I made the decision to go with him. I have e-mailed him twice since my surgery and he has gotten back to me within the hour both times however his answers to my questions were quick and a little vague but still helpful that he e-mailed me right back. The only issue with my surgery is with Beth Israel Medical Center. I was less than impressed with the residents and a few of the nurses as well as the cleanliness of the floor I was on. I needed to stay on top of them as they actually made some decisions that created a cause for concern for my family and I but thankfully Dr. Mowschenson stays very involved with your care after your surgery. I had an Ileus after my surgery and I really think that seeing me everyday for the 18 days that I was in the hospital was the first thing that Dr. M did every morning. I don't think you can go wrong at all with Dr. M but just make sure that you stay on top of the residents and nurses. I believe that all of Dr. M's GI patients will now be going to a floor dedicated only to GI patients in the near future so I think that is a plus. Hope this helps.
