Ok, this is probably the stupidest post ever, but this is something that really upset me while watching the Discovery channel last week. We can’t leave the planet, can we? As I understand it emptying the J-pouch is a more, or less, gravity powered function? With companies working on space hotels and the like I was pretty excited about potentially being able experience a few days of space tourism in my lifetime, but it would seem that this would be impossible if I can’t empty my pouch.

I don't think it's entirely gravity related. Other things contribute to my having to empty my pouch, peristalis for one, and a full pouch for the other. I think if it were only gravity I wouldn't have to get up 2X per night to empty! I think you should be able to travel to outer space and can't wait to hear about your trip!

Hmm, interesting post. I definitely see what you're saying though, and without different gravity it definitely seems like emptying could be a problem. Maybe using a catheter to empty would work? Could be a little tricky but I bet you could find a way to do it!

I'll walk this winding road into the great unknown.

Gravity is a large component, but you could still at least partially empty by increased intra-abdominal pressure. The peristalsis would keep moving things forward and you could empty, just not as good as with gravity on your side.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

If this turns out to be the only thing I have to worry about post-takedown, I am going to be one seriously happy camper.
