Hello all! I've been almost 10 years with my pouch, working fine, with minor problematic periods, but overall fine. Pardon my ignorance, but how long can I expect my pouch to work correctly? I know this depends on medical conditions, care taken and other factors, but does it have a definite lifetime tha tchanges with age? Or can it go on until the day I depart? (if properly taken care of). Has anyone here started a poll or discussion to find out who's the longest lived one here?

Your pouch will and should last as long as you do.
PS You can use the "search" function and find this has been asked prior and see what others said. FAP Diagnosed 7/28/04 First Step 8/10/04 Take Down 12/14/04 |

Cool! I am headed to Mayo Jacksonville tomorrow for a consult to begin my follow ups (bi annually) for FAP as I just recently relocated to JAX. If ya got any FAP related questions, ask away! I'm a wealth of knowledge and if I don't know it I can find out. Really. Charlie PS No problem on the "search" it's a useful tool on this wonderful site and will help find answers to most J Pouch related questions. I celebrated my 16 year J Pouch anniversary earlier this month. The marriage between me and the J Pouch has worked despite some minor issues. I am working through some of those issues. But it's nothing like what I had before.

There is an old thread , click on find and type life expectancy or how old is your pouch.
Lots of responses to read. I have had mine 20 years. Done in Miami! There are not too many older than mine. |

I have an 18 year old pouch. I have a friend who I've known for a while and I didn't even know she had a j-pouch. Her pouch is almost 24 years old and she had her surgery at UCLA.
Yep, your pouch should last as long as you do! kathy *********************************************************** Lately it occurs to me, what a long strange trip it's been..... Grateful Dead |
