My name is Alexis and I'm 25 years old. I was diagnosed with UC when I was 12 years old. I managed the symptoms with the usual meds until I was 18. At that time, I relapsed and was told i was in the very early stages of colon cancer. My proctolectomy/j-pouch procedure was done all at once by an amazing surgeon in San Antonio, TX, so i never had to have a stoma or an ileostomy (I guess I was lucky in that regard). Anyways, after almost 13 years of living with these health issues and the remaining side effects since my surgery, I guess I've decided that it is time to share my story and find people to talk to who actually understand what I go through on a daily basis. In June 2010, I had a minor relapse, and following another procedure, it was discovered that I still have ulcers in my anal area. I'm looking for advice on recipes or other dietary discoveries to help keep my body in check. baked chicken and white rice can only be interesting for so long.

Diagnosed w/ UC - 4/99 by exploratory surgery

early stages of cancer discovered - 3/05

Hi Alexis, welcome to the forums!

As far as Diet goes, each person is different, these are the foods that I eat when I want to "bland" down my jPouch and help to get consistent output:

-Medium cheddar cheese
-Sour dough bread/bagels
-Peanut butter
-Nutella
-Rice (as you mentioned, it gets boring. But you can flavor it up with mild spice. Try adding some Chicken/Beef broth to the water when you make it)

thanks for the food suggestions.

I love your tumblr and found you on FB!

One more question: have y'all ever taken any type of vitamins or supplements to help with the vitamin deficiency?
