I was dialted just about 1 month ago and was put on canasa shortly afterward. The first few days I found it rather difficult to put the canasa in I attributed to swelling. But just after 4 days of use I got a lot worse a lot of swelling very very sore and tender in the anus. I attributed this to having to push the suppository in. My question is has any had this reaction to canasa, and also the rectal cuff is only 2cm I believe are you supposed to hold the suppository in the cuff or let in go into your pouch. When I tried inserting them they either tried to push back out, or I would kind of get a sucked up feeling and they would just kind of suck into the pouch it felt like. Just wondering where exactly the suppository is supposed to stay.

Mark, I know exactly what you mean about that "sucked up feeling"....I just got through a dose of those suppositories. You're doing it right, they have to go all the way in. I guess the medicine somehow concentrates on the cuff.

Hope you feel better

I do not have a pouch anymore but I do have an open rectal cuff still. My cuff gets inflamed from time to time. I tried to use Canasa to keep the inflammation down and it felt like I was shoving a tree trunk up my bum! The only suppository I can use is the brand version Proctocort. They are real narrow and do not bulge out in the center like a lot of the others do. The entire suppository is the same width and not that bullet like shape. The only problem is the generic form is very much like Canasa and so I have to specify that I do not want generic substitution and of course it costs me an arm and a leg ($120) for a 90 day supply (once a day). I at least only use around 10 each month so this round should last me at least 6 months.

hey, mark. same prob here. canasa suppositories are rather uncomfortable. all suppositories are uncomfortable, but specifically the canasa. I got lidocaine jelly from doc so I just use a little of that and it makes insertion and keeping it in a little easier. Don't worry about it getting "sucked" up, what goes up, must come down so the cuff will deff get the medicine.
