Any one here experience, pain in the soul of your feet. What I mean is when I get up to walk, the bottom of my feet are sore & they are hard to walk on at first. Any one? Strange, huh? I get the oddest things! Roll EyesSue

Plantar fasciitis. Very common in people who recently increased weight bearing activity. Many feel the pain only in the heel. Don't go barefoot. Wear supportive shoes at all times.

One word of caution: for me it turned out to be part of my related symptoms of enteropathic arthritis. So, watch out for other tendon type pains, particularly Achilles tendonitis.

I have plantar fascitis in my right foot. I developed it after walking my second half marathon. I have been struggling with it ever since. I went to a foot doctor who got it under control with a couple of steroid shots to the heel (hurts like heck, but pain relief is immediate), anti-inflamatories and custom orthodics ($288 for these and most insurance companies will not cover them). With my recent hip surgery I had to bear most of my weight on my right foot (the one I struggle with) and the plantar fascitis is so flared up right now. I just got my 5th steroid shot the other day but only got relief for that day and I now have a script for physical therapy for it. Apparently there is some ultra sound treatment that can be done.

Classic symptoms of it is getting out of bed in the morning and getting intense pain in your feet (heels and arch). I also get a popping feeling in the plantar fascia tendon (runs from your heel to the front of your foot) occasionally. I find that ice massages help (take a bottle of water and freeze it and then put it on the floor and roll your foot over it) and stretching your foot and calf as best you can.

Between my left hip and my right foot I don't know what leg to limp on lately! Big Grin

Forgot to add that I also wear a night splint to keep the tendon from tightening up at night. If I don't I can barely stand first thing in the morning.

Sue, does your tenderness disappear once you're up and walking? Mine does, so I've tried to just make sure I look after my feet by soaking them in a relaxing foot bath, wearing foot-friendly shoes and having hubby rub them with a good cream. That helps a lot. But getting up in the monrning, I hobble across the floor as if I had swollen pads under my feet.

Soph, that's classic plantar fasciitis symptoms. What happens is that you get microtears in the fascia, which is a continuation of the Achilles tendon around the heel of your foot. During the night when you are off your feet, those little tears swell and contract. When you stand on them, bang!!, on comes the pain. After you have walked on them a while, you stretch the tissue and squeeze the swelling out. This is why it improves during the day. Wearing a night splint helps the fascia from shrinking down during the night.

I avoided spending big bucks on custom orthotics by just buying Superfeet insoles. They worked great. http://www.superfeet.com/products/Green.aspx

A yr after my surgery a problem came on with mine also. Mine feel like their calloused, real tight, at the balls of my feet and my second and third toes on each foot seperated a little bit. I feel it when I walk around the house barefooted which I do alot and some times they feel real tight When I'm in bed watching tv. They feel fine when I have shoes on and when I dance. The foot doctor called it Neuromas , but after reading the pamplet I don't feel like it decribes what I feel. It feels just like callouses and there's problably calloused a little but this all came after my surgery.
They just feel tight!!!but they don't hurt.

The good news is that you will eventually get better! Its like having "tennis elbow" on the heel. My first bout was when I was heavy into Karate and of course, bare feet on hard floors was very painfull. I went to a sports doctor and he showed me how to "tape" my foot so I could go bare footed without much pain. Taping also works well inside shoes. So, if it gets really bad, find someone who can show you how to tape.

Hello All:

I was experiencing the same aches and joint pain all over and I had the most difficult time getting out of a chair and moving around. My doctor tooks blood tests and xrays and confirmed that I had still had inflamtion, extremely anemic and also had enteropathic arthritis. He gave me a shot of a steroid not prednisone for almost immediate relief(a day and a half later felt great) and he put me on methotrexade tablets. I might go to self injection for better absorbtion int the blood stream, and I also take Flagyl for the pouchitis.

Since the shots and the pills I have been able to go bowling with my wife and kids and it felt great to bowl again, its been a year and a half since I could have the energy to go. I am sorry I do not have the name of the steroid. I see him next week and will get the name of it.

Next week I am going camping/fishing for fathers day weekend..Cant wait....I will still deal with the bathroom runs and BB but it will be worth it to get out in nature, fresh air!!!

Wow, Jan - I had no idea it was actually a "thing" and not just my body grumbling at me. Sometimes I feel like my body invents new stuff to throw at me just for fun. Thanks for putting a name to it for me. Weirdly, identifying it helps even if I can't do much about it, since then I can just get on with coping rather than wondering what this new symptom means.
And thank you for the link! They DO sell these in Norway!! Incredible! You're an angel Smiler
