Hey everyone, I am struggling here. I had my 2nd step of a 3 step j-pouch procedure on Sept 22 and have my 3rd step scheduled for December 20 (as long as my barium enema test of pouch of test is okay next week). I had a rough 2nd surgery, was hospitalized for 18 days, had an ileus and needed TPN. Was dehydrated a week at home too. Just returned to work Nov. 18 and I've only been feeling "okay" enough to function pretty normally for these past 3 weeks.
My remaining problems is NAUSEA! Everyday, no matter what I seem to eat, when, I get intense bouts of upset stomach probably 3-4 times a day, to the point where I really feel as though I could go vomit. It has only been happening since I've been out of the hospital. Colorectal surgeon says it isn't due to my surgery, that I should get checked by my gastroenterologist. Anybody have experience with this? I have Zofran that I take when it gets VERY bad, but I just have 2 pills left and I must ration them! Help!! I just might have to deal with it for 2 weeks until my last surgery hopefully resets my body...

Yes, I was plagued with nausea with all 3 stages of surgery. It did eventually go away. I had to have TPN with step 2 until 1 month after takedown. It did get better. Thank goodness it is just an ugly, stomach churning memory now. Rarely have that yuck feeling ever, now...............

I too had really bad nausea up until two weeks after my reversal. I was given three different types of nausea medicens that did nothing for me. I did have to do IV fluids through a picc line everyday at home for hydration which seemed to help the nausea a lot but not completely. Luckily it's gone away now. Hope yours goes away soon.

I also had the same issue between two surgeries. My surgeon washed his hand saying it wasn't his problem except for keep writing me zofran, raglain (spell?) and other nausea prescriptions. I went to my GI who ran all sort of tests - all came -ve. It started going away and I didn't have that severe nausea after my take down.
If zofran helps you, then I think it would be okay to take it until your take down. Hopefully you will not have this issue after surgery.
You may want to go through this post where people have post some very good ideas/recommendations.
My gastroenterologist wants me to have full lab work tomorrow, so guess I'll start there. From what I've read..seems people's nausea just goes away after their takedown! I hope so! In the mean time, I guess we get to do some investigating..

Nope, no pain meds since about 6 weeks ago. I am only take Dexilant (a PPI, hoping that it will knock this pain out if it is heartburn). I don't even take the Immodium or Lomotil that I used to need.

Hey ... have you ever heard of the tasty anti- nausea medicine ... Emetrol? Buy the generic though ... equate, I believe makes it as well ... just ask a pharmacist. It is wonderful ... seriously .. and tastes like candy.

I too had nausea almost every couple of hours between the surgeries and found that eating small meals can help. I would even get up in the middle of the night to have a bowl of cereal because I was nauseous.
It will get a lot better after surgery as your body adjusts to everything. But, not sure if anyone else gets this, I still from time to time get waves of nausea which usually pass after a few minutes and its been almost 7 years since my take down surgery.

I am having the same problem,I have been prescribed onstetron and I have to take codeine three times a day as well as six gastro stop.when I went to have the chemo last week they decided to give me a week off to settle the nassue down but even today I went for a walk along the beach and it got hot then went to try to get something to eat at a cafe and to my horror all the water I had drank just came pouring out I had felt very nassue but thought I could control it.I have lost a fair bit of weight over the past three weeks but I am getting the feeling that the chemo and doctors think I am the only person that is having trouble with the food nassue and drinking and that I should be able to manage it.Been three months since I had the opp to remove the cancer and I thought I would be feeling better as well. How does everyone else cope in the hot weather? The oncologist want me to have therepy so I think I will as my main supporter had a minor stroke last week. Its such a tough time and I feel like I am going really loopy.
Live for the day
