Hi everybody,
Since last friday I have been having rectal pain and urgency. I'm having the same amount of stools per day and before and no change in consistency. Also, no cramps, fevers or anything to indicate pouchitis. I just feel pain and pressure, and while standing I feel as though I may have an accident (but I haven't). It has been getting worse each day. I called my surgeon this morning and he requested I come in next Thursday. I just thought he would recomend antibiotcs or cream. Could this be a stricture? I'm not having difficulty passing stool though. I think strictures are diagnosed with a digital exam, and then dialated. Do they do this at the same time as the exam, or is it something done under sedation? I've not had any major issues post-op until now, and I'm really nervous. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Could be a stricture, but since you are not having difficulty passing stools that are at least semisolid, it is not likely. Could be cuffitis or early pouchitis, and since your symptoms are not "classic," an exam is in order.
If there is a stricture, it may be dilated on the spot, if it is not very tight and you tolerate it. Otherwise, it would need sedation and another appointment. Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |

Ok, this is really starting to suck. I feel like garbage and the pain is intense and constant. I can't get any relief from laying, sitting or standing. I don't know if Thursday of next week is going to work, but that's all they could give me. I could go to the ER where my surgeon is at Rush in Chicago, but that's over 60 miles away, and if they don't do anything, it would be a huge waste of time. I'm so frustrated, just need to vent.
What a pain in the butt, literally. Cheryl May 7, 2007: Step 1 May 29: Bowel Obstruction June 5, 2007: Step 2, take-down April 8, 2008: Perm. Ileo., J-pouch removal, gluteal closure July 1, 2008: Adhesiolysis for bowel obstruction Sept. 13, 2008: Bowel resection, stoma revision |

Oh goodness! These symptoms are very similar to what I've been experiencing for the last month. At first I thought this would be something that would clear up on it's own, but hasn't completely.
I have been having "rectal" pain and abdominal pain, too, but it's been difficult for me to go poo and it hurts like heck. I totally sympathize with what's happening to you in trying to get an appt. I had to wait almost two weeks to be seen (once I decided I really needed and appt.) and my appt's tomorrow (finally!). I wish I had some great advice for you. For me, getting some exercise has really helped. Increased blood flow through the area seems to have calmed things down alittle. Otherwise, unfortunately, I've had to take Vicodin to ease the pain a bit to be able to function. All my best to you, Cher, and I sure hope you get some good answers when you see your doc (and some relief beforehand!). You're in my thoughts and I'll write back when I find out what my doc says about what I'm dealing with, as our symptoms sound so similar. Tracey |
