I am 2 years since takedown for CC and I do worry about re-occurance, keeps me up nights sometimes. I also cannot do my before surgery high paying job .... traveling the world much of the time and so I have been a bit depressed with the symptons we all have, but burn, indigestion sometimes, etc. My doc suggested a "mild" anti depresant ..."Buspar" or Busparone something is the name of the drug. After just a fewe days not only do I feel better about things but my digestion has improved greatly too. I sleep much better and I have a huge appetite that does not result in butt burn. I will have to watch out for weight gain I guess. I wish I had knowm about this prior. If you are a little sad about your plight or feel a little worried or poorer .... ask your doc about anti-depressant or anti anxiety medicine This Busoar stuff is not supposed to make you tired or weak and although I don't drink, they say a beer or drink is ok with this medicine. Great styff!

How much Buspar are you taking? I also started this but I don't feel so great on it....Anti-depressants and anti-aniexty meds all seem to give me watery bm's..Do you take it with or without food? It doesn't make me sleepy...just makes me feel weird..worse than normal.... Char..... |

Just a thought: I wonder if the anti-depressant is really having an effect on your BMs, or if it's the fact that you are sleeping much better. I find that good sleep makes my overall health, and my pouch, work better.
Char, that's what I would think for you. If you're still not getting relief or good sleep, your bms may be affected. If this drug makes you feel weird and worse, you need to talk to your doc about trying something else. "...it came to pass..." - I Thess. 3:4b (NASB) |

Mark,
I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better. I know exactly what you are talking about. I am almost 2 years post TD and I went to see my doctor a couple of months ago because I just wasn't happy with anything in my life. I described it as feeling 'whatever'. I just didn't really care about anything. Never even occured to me that I may have been mildly depressed but my Doctor prescribed Welbutrin and I finally feel good about things. I want to be around my family and I laugh more now! I never ever wanted to go on any type of anti-depressants because all my life I have been told that is a sign of weakness. Well, let me tell you it's NOT. Depression is serious and sometimes needs medical intervention. for others out there who may be feeling 'blah', 'whatever' or just plain sad for long periods of time, please talk to your doctor as there are many options out there to help you feel better. Many anti-drepressants are low dose and non-adictive, and like most other things, different people respond to different medication. ** Christine ** UC dx Oct 2003; Step 1 - 10/8/2005; TakeDown - 05/19/2006; pouchitis dx Dec 2006 The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace. I'm so glad it is helping you! I am a big fan of the Buspar myself!
I did want to note for those who are interested in it, that Buspar is an anti-anxiety and not an anti-depressant. However, depression can be caused by anxiety, so it may help depression too! It may make some people sleepy at first, so use with caution. Plus for those of us in the US, it is a generic. |
