Hi all. I am 5 weeks post reversal and seeing a big improvement. I am getting my strength back, don't have any pain and my butt burn has been alleviated by my toto washlet! I am feeling brave and am planning on going to a concert this week. So, my question is, does alcohol irritate the pouch?? I am not a big drinker to begin with, I normally have 1 maybe 1 1/2 drinks a couple times a month (if that often) and am wondering what to expect. I want to feel normal and don't want to explain why I am not drinking to the ppl who are unaware of my surgeries... thanks!

I'm about four months post-takedown, and alcohol hasn't given me a problem. I was never a big drinker either, maybe a few drinks a year. There was one week a couple months ago when I had a few drinks, and I was fine. Just take it slow and see how it goes for you.

*Step 2: November 17, 2009. post-op complications: paralytic ileus

You might not have time for this, but I'd experiment with a few drinks (whatever you plan to drink) prior to the concert. That way you'll have an idea how your body will react. Have fun!

Some people have problems with beers..all of the gas etc...others have problems with mixed drinks and the sugar in the mixers...try just drinking one and having tons of water in betweet...( I used to have 'virgin drinks' instead of the alcoholic ones...no explinations needed that way! and I looked normal with a drink in my hand all night long Big Grin)
Enjoy the concert!

It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

Thank you so much for the replies and tips! I will definitely make sure to stay hydrated with water as well! I think I can probably get away with drinking water in a glass of ice with a splash of lime. Looks just like vodka and tonic water, right??

I notice the frequency of having to use the restroom goes up after I have a drink or two. And can last for hours, so I try to advoid drinking. I had my takedown a couple of years ago and still deal with butt burn from time to time, I notice that it gets worst if I've drank soda or some citrus based juice.

I am a two glasses of wine per night or a two martini (gin) per night person. No problems as long as I don't drive!

Thanks again for the replies! So, I went to the concert (Black Eyed Peas!) and it was tons of fun. I had a very weak drink with a little grey goose vodka and lots of orange and pineapple juice which made me feel just fine. I also had water. When we got to the concert, I had another weak drink with tons of water. I had to pee all night, lol! It wasn't until the concert was over that I felt like vomitting the whole ride home Frowner I also had a bad headache so felt hungover. I took 2 tylenol, a hot shower and went to bed. I slept most of the day today and am now feeling better. Guess my new limit is 1 weak drink Frowner

I am soooo very sorry to hear this! I was hoping you had a better time with your cocktails.

I planned my surgeries around my summer concerts which include a lot of tailgating and such. I was hoping I could enjoy a few pre-show cocktails... Frowner
