Hi all,

Well, I suspected this would increase and am kind of excited about it, oddly enough! I start to see symptoms of my Crohn's a bit before I'm ready to inject again (every two weeks now)so my doc has decided to put me on it once a week. He said about 30% of ppl need it weekly. I'm not surprised I do. I'm also taking Imuran and Xifaxan for the CD. I feel like this increase will help, but the fact that I am increasing on an already potent medicine makes me concerned...just a tad. Jan, I know you are on this once a week. I try not to think too much about the "what ifs" b/c it makes me feel so good now, but I also have lingering concerns about its safety, ya know?
We also talked about my arthritis today and they are ordering a dexa scan (b/c I haven't had one in two years) and I am taking Calcium again. I suppose the Humira will help a lot with the arthritis too, which also pleases me as this cold weather is making it worse.
Last ? Is it okay to take calcium and iron together?
SO...that's the update. Hopefully it will help. I'm already feeling so much better after being on Humira twice a month so I'm sure this will be even better.
Thanks Smiler

It's recommended that you take calcium and iron at different times of day, or at least two hours apart from each other. Results of numerous studies confirm this and Jan states this in a recent post titled Anemia + Ferrous Sulfate:

quote:
In addition to taking your iron supplements with vitamin C, it is also important to avoid calcium supplements and/or calcium rich foods when you take it. If you don't take it with dietary sources of vitamin C, you can just take it with a vitamin C tablet. The vitamin C enhances absorption, and calcium blocks it by binding with the iron.

Thanks, LuckyOne! I knew there was something funky with the calcium/iron thing. Thanks for filling me in! Smiler
Now if I can just figure out when I'm going to take all this stuff. ha!
