My hubby went into to have his ileo reversed 3 1/2 weeks ago. Everything looked good for the first week. Then he had to have emergency surgery because the bowel was becoming exposed. During this surgery, it was discovered all of his facia tissue had disinergrated. (This still has me puzzled, how this happened within a weeks time) Anyhow that surgery was done on a Friday. That Sunday night he developed a leak that lead to a fistula. He now have a medium fistula pouch attached to his tummy so the drainage is coming out into this pouch. This pouch is currently attached to a hose and a drainage bag from the hospital. (after the holiday weekend I will contact my DME to see about getting a leg pouch to attach to fistula pouch so he is free to move around Anyhow the odor is really really bad from this pouch. I have flushed the pouch with water, we have used M-9 drops. Nothing seems to work. Cannot use the hydogen peroxide, due the this incision still being open on his tummy, don't want to cause any unnecessary damage, he has been thru so much already. Does anyone have any ideas?

As far as the leak and fistula goes, they may be repairing themselves. The doctor will know in a few more weeks. He seems to be getting more output from the bottom end rather than the pouch, so this is a good indication.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you tried putting a little mouthwash in the pouch? I remember doing this when I had an ileostomy. Just a thought! Best wishes.
