Marshmellows kinda worked for me most or some of the time but I was having such trouble with my bag leaking and needing to be changed everyday for 5 weeks that eating marshmellows became my least favorite think. I will be okay if I NEVER SEE ANOTHER MARSHMELLOW. I do agree that who ever came up with that idea was really on top of things.

MERRY CHRIST~mas everyone

I use them every change too. Even if it's first thing in the morning. Great trick.

Wife bought the mini marshmallows this time, and sometimes a little one might get through from time to time.

Jessica,
While I can't take credit for the marshmallow trick, I do preach that one a lot, because it worked like a CHARM for me- it was like completely turning off a faucet!

I don't even remember where I heard it from (most probably from somebody here!), but very glad it worked for you!

It never really worked for me either. Perhaps I was doing something wrong? Do you guys swalllow them whole or chew them?

I found that wine gums (similar to gummy bears but with a lot less sugar) worked better for me.

Cool Shell Cool

Jason,
You're supposed to cram them into your STOMA- not into your ostomy!

How many times do I have to explain that to you?!? Razzer

Latest discussion on the marshmallow trick is here:
Tips and Tricks

I used to eat a couple of the large marshmallows about 10-15 minutes before changing my ostomy, and it would stop any/all output from my stoma like a faucet... worked great!

Hmmmmmm.... so THAT's what I was doing wrong! Roll Eyes Big Grin

Ok so really guys.... do you swallow the marshmallows whole or do you chew well? Only I always chewed and they didn't do a thing for me.

Perfect timing for this post! So, I'm on my second loop ileo (about 4 months now) and the other night I tried the marshmallow trick for the first time. I ate about 4 medium ones (and yes, I chew them) and then took my bag off and took my shower. I was so impressed! I didn't have any output in the shower! It was great because I hate having to make sure it all washes down the drain and doesn't get stuck under the mat.

Anyway, I got out and put tp around my stoma as usual and stepped out of the bathroom to get something. Then, I got a bit too overconfident and started watching an interesting show on tv for a few minutes. I apparently went back into the bathroom just in time because as I sat down on the toilet and removed the tp my stoma suddenly became Old Faithful! It started pouring out and there was nothing I could do! I was grabbing more and more tp and trying to wipe up and get a new handful on there but it was too much. After what seemed like forever (but was probably only about a minute or two of non-stop flow) it finally slowed enough for me to get cleaned up and get a new bag on.

Moral of the story is....the marshmallow trick works great, but don't get too c*cky!!

What an experience!!

Shell,
Now I'd expect that from a cop (Jason), but NOT from you! Wink

I'd eat them like normal- nothing fancy!

Looks like I'm headed back to eating them on a regular basis again- whooo-hoooo!
