I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. We did. Although, I had to start the Cippro again on Dec 23rd. If I'm off the Cippro for more than about 4-5 days, I'm right back to liquid fire. Almost immediately after I start Cippro again, I'm much better. Has anyone been on it long term? My surgeon told me he had a few patients that had been on it for several years. I'm not sure if he meant, on and off, or continually. Any thoughts or info would help. Thanks. David

I was on Cipro for 7 months. I was on varyinf doses of 250mg - 1000mg. It was impossible to get off. I then swtiched to Augmentin and within 2 months was off antibiotics!

As long as you dont have side effects, it is supposidly a safe medicine to take long term, if needed.

I have been on cipro now for 2 years+ and have not had any issues thus far... I do worry about it though. There are other antibiotics like flagyl and xifiaxan you could look into, but if cipro is working for you now, I would keep taking it as it was prescribed. Two problems in particular that you need to watch for is tendon (tendonitis) and nerve damage (tingling, numbness).

I was on 500-1250 mg of it for 5 months and started getting terrible eye aches and nerve issues... they switched me from that to Leviquil (sp) and then I went to the end illeo. Like you, every time I tried to come off of it it made my rear very angry LOL!
And I too had a wonderful xmas thanks!

I was on Cipro about 6 times my first year. The last time I saw a GI, my surgeon recommended. He said I had antibiotic resistent pouchitis. I was switched to Augmentin/Leviquin(sp?), switching between the two every 2 weeks. So far, so good.
Good luck...

Have a fabulous day!
