If you do a 'Find' on the word prostate you will find some discussion on the topic. People have had varying experiences. If it were me, based upon what I remember people saying, I would not let anyone but my surgeon even attempt to do a digital exam. Also, someone mentioned they can do that exam via ultrasound instead. Talk to your surgeon.

I have an enlarged prostrate and take medicine for it, which is a drag because I'm only 38. Although I have not had a digital exam?, I have a very good urologist that understands my situation-i.e. with j-pouch, and he very quickly and carefully uses his finger to check prostrate size. I have had no problems. It's not the funnest thing in the world, but at least it is like 3 seconds. Just be sure to fully explain your situation.

Whenever I get scoped, I have the G.I. or surgeon do the finger test. Haven't found another Dr. that wants to risk it. Beyond that, I depend solely on the PSA alone.
